  1. Agree that refrig is the best short term method. Only downside is remembering to take it out an hour before you need it. Anxiously awaiting the Ridge Home Ranch....
  2. Maybe there's some bottle variation on the St Francis-I'll have to try another bottle, I was underwhelmed by the Merlot-although the it was still fine for the price. The cab is very nice, not terribly concentrated but very refined-needs some open bottle time to shine.
  3. The Supreme Court is taking up the issue of interstate shipment this term, so that should be interesting, maybe lead to some change. The "Flood Tax" is an abomination. The Chairman's Selection buys are literally unbelievable at times. My only real remaining gripe is "house wine" pricing. As an example, I really like Monte Antico-a Tuscan red from a large winery with real character in good vintages-and its been my house wine for years. In Pa, its 12 or 13 bucks, rarely on sale for 9, no case discount, and often , due to the size of the supply pipeline, a vintage hits neighboring states months before here. I can get it in NJ for 8 bucks. The difference between a $100 case and a $150 case of an everday wine is significant-think of it as a bottle of Don Melchior, and it really burns ya.
  4. Had the Burgess Zin last night. Very round for a Zin, some of the usual Zin flavors, but not in, say, the Ridge style. Struck me that it would be a very flexible wine. Lots of color and body and fruit, just tannic enough to balance it out for current drinking. At the price, I'm going back for a case. As much as I love what Newman is doing, he's hell on my bank account.
  5. Wow-the last deal like that was maybe 5 yrs ago or so when the specialty stores had mags of Wm Hill cabs from 82-84 for 25 bucks. Still have one or two of those, but I'll have to bribe the specialty wine guy in Lansdale to grab a couple of the Burgess for me. Katie, is the Pedroncelli Zin as good as the cab?-I'm spending so much on these "wine glut" bargains that I need to start prioritizing.
  6. Had the Pedroncelli last night-quite a deal at 11 bucks-color's a little light, but plenty of fruit and enough tannin/structure to last a while. At that price, I'm surely going to get more.
  7. Second the Arrowood-very rich. The Raymond reserve Cab is a pretty nice wine from a difficult vintage.
  8. Ugly Jersey's for .99 lb yesterday. Excellent eating, esp w/ some the of the huge basil from the organic veggie lady.
  9. Was there 3 wks ago. Had the omakase, both food and beverage. While the food was excellent, we ended up dropping close to $450 with tips for two. For that kind of money, the entire experience was a bit lacking. And the space is noisy as hell-not sure its what I'd want for an anniversary occassion. I'd much rather go see Matt Ito again at Fuji.
  10. Marinade-I live about 10 minutes from Quakertown, and would love the info on the wood vendor-have a pickup, and maybe we could work something out. You can email the info to me at glepore at comcast.net
