  1. Of course, I was wondering if John told him about AHD... Go to it, Eric! You can start the owners' club, trading shirts and stories. When I was in Chicago last fall (first trip), I passed on the dogs b/c I don't like half of the stuff they put on them, but I did have an EYEtalian (that's how they pronounced it) beef sandwich--the whole of which, bread and all, was dunked in au jus after being piled with onions and peppers--and that was a VERY good (albeit messy) thing. Would be cool to have them in the area!
  2. Well, it was closer to 8:50, but that was great, guys! Congratulations again!
  3. I had another wonderful dinner at The Jeff last weekend; a friend from AZ had done her research here on eG and sent me a gift certificate for my birthday. It was, needless to say, burning a hole in my pocket. We started with pomegranate bellinis, then moved on to goat cheese and pumpkin croquettes and the braciole, which I have been 'needing' to try for far too long. Now I see why everyone raves about it! For entrees, he had the peppered tuna, and I had the veal chop. Both were delicious, but we agreed that the tuna was a tad salty. Actually, I was told "you win"--not that I had anything to do with it! For dessert, he went with the bread pudding, which he must have any time, anywhere, and loved it. I had the MOJITO SORBET, which was heavenly, albeit far too much at that point (3 scoops and a half a pizelle). I had to ask..it's by Capogiro, which explains why it was so damn good! TONS 'O MINT, too... Needless to say, it was another great meal at The Jeff and a reminder that even when the chef leaves, if he has trained a great staff, they can maintain the quality that was established. I still wish I lived a few blocks away, but my wallet is happier that I don't! My only complaint (esp now that it's hot out) is that the menu was decidedly still not in gear for summer/warmer weather--hence the rather heavy meal. But we HAD to try those croquettes (yummy, but too heavy for May), and I HAD to try the braciole, so it was also our doing. And since it's now officially summer, I'll remind you all that The Jeff has one of the loveliest patios in Northern NJ...the night we were there, the restaurant and bar were packed, but it was a tad cool to sit outside. My bet is that won't be the case this weekend!
  4. Uh, never mind...I was talking about Tuptim! Never can remember the name of that place...
  5. Is this the Thai place on Bloomfield in between Blu and the other Thai place (name escapes me...they do 'fusion' and make souffles)? Thai Chef, maybe? If so, I've been a few times, and always enjoy what I get. I'm rather partial to duck, and liked their duck salad a lot; also had the dish with duck and pineapple (by accident) and enjoyed that too. Anything else I've tasted has been fresh, well-spiced, and reasonably priced.
  6. Very kind of you to respond, David. Thanks!
  7. Tommy, update the Tivo... LIVE, in studio demo on Channel 4, WNBC's TODAY in NY program on Sunday morning at 8:40 AM CONGRATS, ERIC! Great stuff.

Tell us about the calm sauces, Tommy. How do they make them, exactly? Tranquilizers?
  11. I could have written the EXACT post, Tommy. When my bro lived in northern CA, I was all excited to go to TJ with him, b/c I'd heard so many people rave about it. We went, and I looked around and thought, "Aaaaaaaand...??" Just don't get it. When I'm in the vicinity, I will run in and out of the Florham Park store to buy almonds and Go Lean Bars by the case, but I'm just not inspired by anything else. And I've heard the same thing about their frozen stuff. Whoopee.
  12. i'm in. i mean, not in the argument, but in the contest. even though i'm not in the argument. i just like their ribs. can we include a Heineken Light drinking contest as well? thanks. ← Count me in! Edit: I'll bring the handbags. But you'll have to tell me what colors you'll be wearing...
  13. What's the address? ← The description above is correct; it's a small strip that sits perpendicular to Livingston Avenue, just about across from the Shop-Rite, almost to the intersection of Northfield Ave. There's a big free-standing dry cleaners in the parking lot as well. If that info doesn't help you find it, nothing will!
  14. I seem to recall that there were new owners, but hadn't heard that they're closing. Where's Tommy when we need him?!?
  15. Thanks for bringing this up, EMcD! I thought the same thing. It isn't exactly the green glorious 'burbs, but it certainly isn't a factory town! Just try to touch a piece of real estate for under $300K anywhere in the town.
  16. Super Duper Bagels in Livingston. Teeny, tiny place, somewhat cranky owner, fantastic, hand-rolled bagels. It's been there for 15+ years...
  17. Way to take one for the team, Daniel!
  18. Where is this place?!?
  19. Moms (heart) hot dogs! So read signs all over AHD yesterday...luckily, we had our VEGETARIAN mom in tow! We told her she could choose where to grab lunch since it's Mother's Day weekend, and my bro, niece and I were quite pleased when she chose AHD. Of course, she also had the fun of ordering the veggie burger, and after one bite, declared it to be EXCELLENT. It was my brother's first trip, and he went with the Caped Crusader which he thought was fantastic. I had a hotburger hamdog w/chili and cheese whiz (and had to explain to about 6 people around me at the register what it was--Eric, where's that commission check?!? ), and my niece had the kid's meal and was thrilled to take home the cool cup. ALL GOOD. I have to say that I think it's great that AHD is attracting such a wide age range of customers! We were amused to hear more than one group of folks who were definitely in the 60+ crowd declare "Well, I'm really going to hell with myself, but it's worth it!" Of course, then there are also people in there with kids in tow, as well as high school kids in and out. Just great to see you all running at full speed again, guys! (And PS, full speed enough that there were NO parking spots--front or back--when we arrived. As we came back to the front, I snagged one, but I was quite pleased to see that there was a wait to park.) Eric, sorry to have missed you!
  20. Are you talking American BBQ, or is it possible that you've read/heard about the ___ place that's supposed to make phenomenal 'barbeque' chicken?? I want to say it's Latin American, but I'm not sure... Sorry--that's not a ton of help, I know, but I'm hoping it might jog someone else's memory!
  21. Would Corrado's carry it? I agree about the Latin markets...one of those places in North Bergen probably has it, but I don't know any specifically.
  22. All is right in the universe. Dinner tonight: an Amazing and a small order of fries with that yummy chipotle mayo! CONGRATULATIONS to Eric and Matt!! A slow but steady crowd while I was there is a very good start--just wait until the word really gets out!
  23. I do believe it's time to close this thread and get back to this one!
  24. So much for the Food Network catering to 20-30something males--and thank goodness! I don't really care if the show is any good--I'll watch with the sound off if it's those two...
