  1. just got through - open 11 to 8 on sundays. cash only. no seating.
  2. Where is the Rib Pit, and is it open on Sundays? Rib Pit Lounge 3907 14th St. NW Washington D.C. 20011 202.291.6261 Type of Food: Ribs Payment: Cash just tried to call, but no answer.
  3. Let's do the Rib Pit at 1pm this Sunday. This will be a good first outing. Agreed?
  4. First off, I'm in. Definitely. I enjoy smoking a butt for pulled pork and I love eating it. I've been to the BBQ Battle before. Negatives: 1) It'll be too crowded for a group of us to hang together and enjoy each other's company. 2) Somehow being in the middle of a city out in the streets with the teeming masses just isn't a BBQ "environment". 3) You'll get to SEE plenty of BBQing going on, but the only thing you'll taste is the stuff they're selling at the stands (i.e. Red Hot & Blue). The GOOD stuff is for the judges. 4) This is one of those events where you have the honor and pleasure of standing in line to buy tickets to stand in another line to get beer. Positives: 1) Uhm... Anyway, I'm up for the Charles county trip or out to western VA. Or perhaps if someone is kind enough to host our own BBQ battle? Now THERE'S an idea... If a consensus is building not to go to the Safeway for the reasons stated, and I thing that it is, then let's pick a place and meet sometime Sunday afternoon. bbq4 recommended the following places in a PM: Rib Pit (DC) (we'd need to find a park nearby or in DC, shouldn't be hard); Boss Hogs (McLean) (there's a park on Old Chain Bridge 2 minutes away); Docs (Aldie, VA) Willards (Chantilly) (trek back to Frying Pan Park in Herndon/Chantilly, VA). They all sound good to me. For those who can make it Sunday (and let us know here), what do you think?

  6. 1) If you actually had something from from my list I'd be mighty surprised. However it is uncalled for, rude, arrogant and just plain cheap to BYO if it is represented on a restaurant's list. 2) Bringing cheap wine makes me look cheap by association as soon as it's placed on that table for everone to see. But hey I'm not a bad guy, I once had a young couple who brought a bottle a bottle of Woodbridge in and when he handed it to me you could tell he was kinda embarassed. Now the ball's in my court and I can make him feel like an asshole and a peon, but that helps nobody. Instead I offered to decant the wine and brought out the big fat Reidel glasses that you can shove your fist into. They felt important and although it was a $5 bottle of swill the $15 corkage was well spent. If the guy had been jerk or had given me the slightest air of attitude he and the wine get tossed. The moral of the story is DON"T BE A DICK. But it flows both ways. Food for Thought Jarad If a customer calls a restaurant and they say you can bring your own wine and they do not tell me "unless the wine is cheap or on our list" or other diplomatic words to that effect, how is that the customer's fault? It would unacceptable and inappropriate to me if I called a restaurant and was not told that information until I got to the restaurant that my wine would not be permitted because it's on the restaurant's list or cheap (compared to what?) I checked your website and didn't see a winelist, so I can't compare it to mine. But this issue obviously isn't about my winelist or yours, it's about communication and letting the customer know what a restaurant does or does not permit. That said, I applaud the way you handled the situation with the young couple.
  7. It's just a list of places that I compiled from the other thread. It is not meant to be the "list", by any means. As I hear of more places, I'll add to it. Mr. mktye will be joining us as well.

  9. Thanks for all of your PMs. I have heard here and elsewhere that the Safeway contest may not be the best place to go for BBQ (unless Red Hot and Blue is your fancy). If anyone has any experiences there, I'd love to hear them. I am open to suggestions other than the Safeway.
  10. Wouldn't that be provolone wit? I stand corrected. There is no need to go near center city to get a cheesesteak. Go to Tony Luke's at Front and Oregon. Incidently, across the street, there is Tony Luke's House of Pasta. Fairly new to the scene, but respectable.
  11. Can you give us some coordinates regarding the Safeway event? http://barbecuebattle.com/
  12. At this point, we are eight: Otello Otello's wife (she doesn't know it yet, but she won't mind) hillvalley mnebergall JennyUptown cjsadler mktye bbq4meanytime Maybe we can hold our first meeting at the Safeway BBQ cookoff next weekend?
  13. With this post, I hereby commence the DCBBQ Club. If interested, please respond here, or PM me. I have created a list above of many BBQ places, which is a good start. Starting soon, we will pick a place and go. All are invited. I've been following these guys for some time and like the way they do it: http://www.gasbbq.net/ They go to a place once a month, every month. I'm pretty sure I can eat at a new BBQ place one a month. So, who's in? Otello
  14. You need to get the chicken italian from tony luke's with rab and the hots (ask for it that way). The chicken cutlet sandwich is an underrated gem. You need to try John's Pork. I'm not going to argue with your ratings, other than to state that you should not penalize a place that doesn't use whiz. Provolone with.

  16. Either a restaurant lets you bring wine, or it doesn't. If it does, IMO you can bring whatever wine you want, even if it's cheap or on the list.
  17. The Four P's in cleveland park.
  18. What a meal. The food just kept coming for, oh, about four hours (pacing was key). Most of the menu was meatless and we hardly noticed (and that's saying something for this carnivore). Fresh ingredients made with obvious care. It was clear that Passage to India put alot of effort into this event and it showed. Thanks alot Monica. We had a great time.
  19. What's a closet without skeletons? On that note, who's up for grilled steaks at my house?
  20. any recommendations for kennett square mexican?
  21. make that otello +5, if possible. thanks.
  22. add two more to otello, if possible. so now it's otello +3. thanks again. cash is fine with me.
