Tony Lukes, as long as I can include a stop at Bell Beverage for a case of Hop Devil. After just finishing my lunch, a hoagie from Sarcone's, it's a tossup between TL's and Sarcone's. If it was to be my last item of Philly food ever, I'd find room in my stomach for both.

So I wander in to a nearby liquor store, which has been around for years, but has recently built a brand new huge store on the rear of their property and knocked down the old building. They installed a long row of brand spanking new refrigerated beer shelves. Looks nice so far...but then I notice the lights Big, bright fluorescent lights line each level of shelves. The Victory Prima Pils looks at me with big puppy dog eyes and a look of distress . He's begging , "Save me from the light!" The Pilsner Urqell is pleading, "Put me in the dark. I can't take it anymore!" I respond, "Sorry pals, mean Mr. Light already done you in." I just don't get it. New store, pretty nice selection of beer and wine (I ended up buying a bottle of Ommegang Three Philosophers and a four pack of Dogfish Head Au Courant from the regular, unlit, unrefrigerated shelves), but they are destroying their beer.

O, you poor bastard. I thought there was a Flying Fish brewpub at Disney World or Universal or Epcot, but I fear that may be the best you'll do. There's a Flying Fish restaurant, and I think they might carry one of FF's beers. I'm looking for something I can put in the fridge (we'll be in a condo) for after the kids are in bed. Oh well...

Ask Larry David what happens when you don't tip the captain.

I'll be going to Disney World in a few months, and I'd like to sample the local beers. Any suggestions? How is the beer at the brewpub in Disney World (at the Boardwalk)?

Next on the playlist were J. Geils "Love Stinks" and Nine Inch Nails "Head Like a Hole"* *"...Bow down before the one you serve, you're going to get what you deserve..." I suggested both of these songs to my wife as our wedding song. I can't understand why she wouldn't agree

Our trip to NYC for my wife's birthday included stops at the Heartland Chop House for a pre-theater lunch and Gingerman after dinner. Featured at Heartland was their "Not Tonight Honey Porter". I didn't get to try it, due to my self imposed limit of one beer before the show. I had the Farmer John's Oatmeal Stout, which was great. That's one dangerous beer. It is a very smooth, easy drinking stout. Before you know it, your glass is empty and you want more.

I'll trade you my Victory Old Horizontal for some cheese BTW, thanks for bringing the cheese to the GLP.

Do Heartland, John; food is quite good (the mini bison burgers were quite tasty the last time I visited in October), and Farmer John's Oatmeal Stout and Heartland's Black Lager are a must-quaff duo! Hmm...Heartland for lunch and I Trulli for dinner. I can deal with that.

Tomorrow afternoon I'm going to have about a one hour window of opportunity for lunch before seeing Ashley Judd in Cat on a Hot Tin Roof. Any suggestions for a quick but good lunch before the 2 PM show? The only thing I won't eat is fast food (with the exception of a good hot dog or pizza) or chain food. A friend of mine recommended Virgil's, Ollie's or Heartland Chop House (I'm a beer geek). Any other ideas?

Well, the closest I could get to what I wanted (pils or weissbier) without driving to the store was Victory Whirlwind Wit, which was close enough.

Am I sensing a short run down the road to Fuji, now that you've discovered the best sushi is practically in your backyard? Of course! It's dangerously close. Now all I have to do is figure out what it is that I'm eating, other than the obvious tuna and salmon.
-
If I were eating sushi, I would try to find: Stoudt's Pils Victory Prima Pils Staub's Saranac Pilsner Yuengling Lord Chesterfield Ale (my personal fave with seafood) Brooklyn Pilsner Great minds think alike. I was considering the Victory or Brooklyn. In Garrett Oliver's book, he says that weissbier is a good match with sushi. I'll have to do a tasting with three or four different beers one of these days.

I'm planning a late night sushi snack tonight. Any suggestions for a good beer/sushi match?

Real Maryland Crabs are only available May thru August--- what does this place do the rest of the year? I think they have them flown up from Louisiana.

Yes, on the opposite (northbound) side of Rt 73.

That it is. I had it a few months ago and was pleasantly surprised. I've had a hard time finding good BBQ around here. -
My first selection from the Christmas Mix was the Abita Christmas Ale. It's the second beer from Abita I've had (Turbo Dog was the other) and both have disappointed me. I read somewhere that Abita doesn't "travel well" and maybe this is true, as evidenced by the soapy taste of the beer. Oh well, not every one can be a winner. I made up for it by drinking a Wild Goose Snow Goose, which was very good. An old favorite, Penn St Nikolaus, is next.

Wine with my dinner, but I may crack open one of my 86 Thomas Hardy's at some point in the evening. If I can't bear to open it, then I'll pick something from my holiday mix case.

We purchased one a few weeks ago in Portland, OR, and then 2 at Vintage Cellar in Blacksburg, VA. My inventory indicates they were about $25 a piece in each place. So, $20 a bottle is pretty good. Where is it selling for that? I think the exact price was either $22.99 or $23.99, at a liquor store in Voorhees, NJ.
-
I guess the one glass/two straw thing doesn't work for beer, huh? What did you pay for the Deus? It was a little over $20 in my local liquor store.

Is Kitchen Kapers in north Jersey or just in south Jersey? They do knife sharpening. They send them out, with a couple of days turnaround time. I've never had mine done there, so I can't vouch for the quality of the job.

Hmm...this sounds eerily familiar to a conversation I had last night... (it was nice to meet you in person, Katie)
