    Chili

Thank you for the suggestions. Adegiulio, is your recipe confidential? :Dave
  2. Where's your best chili place in NJ? I've never had chili here that impressed me. However, I've never really sought it. The best chili I've ever tasted was at a dive bar called Up A Creek in Sterling, PA. But that's too far away. Your thoughts. Thnx.
  3. Sono 1060 State Highway 35 Middletown, NJ 07748 (732) 706-3588 --my favorite in Monmouth
  4. Tonight I attempted to go to Nebraska Beef and discovered that NY closed their doors for tax reasons. I felt like crying... Then I walked over to MarkJoseph and got more disappointed, however they're still open for business.
  5. My travel agent highly recommended the Four Sisters. In November I'll be staying at their Maison Fleurie. I have heard good things and during my 2 week stay in CA, half of my time will be spent at two Four Sisters locations.
  6. Try John's Meat Market, Scotch Plains, NJ. They sell perfectly marbled US Prime Dry Aged beef at a price that's overwhelmingly better than Lobel's. I love steak and John's tops my list.
  7. I'm back ... I just couldn't resist this one! I just blocked out the entire day for this event. I live for this kind of stuff!! Magic-marker me in (just me, steakas). I'll bring the suburban into the City, so I can act as chauffeur for those who need it. Please update the agenda as the date nears... Seating won't matter to me. I wouldn't even mind sitting at a bar or cocktail table. See you's L8R. BR, :S
  8. I'm seeking the best-prepared beef in Northeastern CA. Is it at Cole's or Harris'? I do have Luger taste which means I'm spoiled. So please don't recommend places such as Ruth's Chris or Morton's. Come on… there's gotta be Californian version of Steakas out there… Thanx
  9. Try Bobby Chez in margate, take the stuff home and heat it up. Also try the fried oysters. It's a short drive south from AC.
  10. How's Conte's in Princeton? I hear good things.
  11. Sorry, I did not intend to offend anyone. I only make pizza when my friend brings me Oregano from the Dominican Republic. The taste between canned and fresh tomatoes is significant. I do indeed use fresh tomatoes when making my own pizza. I peel and crush them with my hands. edit:gramar
  12. Kinchley's sucks. They use canned tomato. Their pizza is among the lower half of all I've ever eaten. It surprises me that Kinchley's is even discussed on this forum.
  13. Nearby is Papa's Tomato Pies (804 Chambers St). They've been around longer than DeLorenzo's and make a Tomato Pie that's practically indistinguishable from DeLorenzo's. Papa's tomato pie bears ABSOLUTELY NO RESEMBLANCE to a tomato pie from either of the Delorenzo's places, Hudson St. , or Hamilton Ave. (they are not directly related). Having finally made it to Papa's, we got a doughy, underbaked, and thoroughly unremarkable pizza. What a mediocre excuse for pizza. The hype that led me there was totally misguided. What you tell me is a surprise. Based on my experience, I must completely disagree with you. When I went there, there was an old guy named "AB" who made my pie. AB is the founder of the restaurant. He made me a tomato pie which was extremely similar to DeLorenzo's Hudson St. However, I've only been there once so I really don't have much ground to stand on. If anything, DeLorenzo's Hamilton is significantly more dissimilar to DeLorenzo's Hudson than Papa's. :Dave edit:gramer
  14. no i haven't. but now that you remind me, i'll try to get down that way to get some beef. Also try the sweet Italian sausage. One of my coworkers said their sausage is what gave them most of their reputation. I had it and it was the tastiest and most complete sausage I've ever eaten.
  15. Soon I will be a Middletown resident, and I've worked there for the past 3 years. Am I incomplete because I haven't been to this restaurant?
  16. Tommy, that website accurately describes the place. The guy closes the place when he runs out of dough. Now I'm hungry... edit: the olive oil is what makes it great
  17. Delorenzo's Tomato Pies, 530 Hudson St, Trenton, NJ. Have you tried it? They're my favorite. Nearby is Papa's Tomato Pies (804 Chambers St). They've been around longer than DeLorenzo's and make a Tomato Pie that's practically indistinguishable from DeLorenzo's. From what I'm told, Una Pizza Napoletana (1901 Route 35, Pt Pleasant Bch) makes pizza very similar to Napoletana-style pizza in Italy. Is it? I like their pizza but it's different (and expensive). But their pizza reminds me of something I'd get as an appetizer in a yuppy restaurant in Red Bank. Is this what it's supposed to be? :Dave
  18. Is there a corkage fee?
  19. Mr. Tommy, please keep me posted on your findings. Have you tried any from John's lately?
  20. Went to Mirasol tonight. We got caipirinha and a soft shell crab appetizer. The Caipirinha was great. The softie didn't have its face cut off nor did it have its lungs removed. Shame on this place. Ironbound is the only place for good Portuguese.
  21. One never has a second chance to make a first impression. I'll never go back. Besides, I won't cheat on my place ... Navesink Fishery. Give them a try.
  22. The barge sucks. I went there once and got a dried-out lobster. My date got stuffed flounder which was completely unexciting. Here's a story about the barge: When I presented my Entertainment coupon they wouldn't take it, because I ate a lobster. I got into a to-do with the manager and it ended off with them refusing to take off the meal of lower price. The Barge's ad in the Entertainment book does indeed show lobsters on the menu. I went out to my car and brought the book in, showed the manager, and she basically said F*@k You! After that, being the stubborn person I am, I ended waiting at the table (as there were none available). I waited around for somebody to finish their meal, then, in an act of subterfuge, I gave the coupon to a nice old couple sitting next to us. Management, being the nice Fu*k's they are, ended up not punching the card (I guess because she felt bad for them). I had to do it, just for the point. I made sure Management was aware of my actions after the old couple had left. Being the card wasn't punched at that time, I asked (obnoxiously) that management punch the card. They did. So I left with a punched card and made an old couple happy. I will never eat at the barge again. Honestly though, I wasn't impressed with their food. I hate the barge and hope they go out of business. I hate that effin' place. My favorite seafood place is the Navesink Fishery, on Rte 36 in Navesink (which is part of Middletown Township). I go there at least three times per month. Love it!
  23. I went to Pearl of the Sea in Long Branch. The manila clams (appetizer) were the only good part of the meal. The sangrea was good, however $18 per pitcher (we had one). The bartender looked dumbfounded when I asked for caipirinha. Meals averaged $18 and I got out of the place spending $100 (w/tip) for 2. I don't feel that I got my money's worth. I'd still rather go to Mirasol or Portuguese Manor. They're both better, cost less and serve caipirinha.
  24. Hi WestOrangeFrank. Give River Palm a try. Stuffy place but great beef (though a bit pricy). If you want to cook steaks yourself try John's meat Market in Scotch Plains. :Dave
  25. I like steakhouses. I've eaten at some of the best on the eastern seaboard. What is steak like out in CA? From what I've read, I hear good things about Harris' and Cole's. Are they the dominant ones out there? Are they the best ones on the west? Is there better ones? I'll be heading out there soon (Northern CA). Please give me your thoughts. Thanks.
