  1. Any cheese makers in this thread? I enjoy cheese and have started making it over the last year. So far I have created Mozzarella, cheddar, ricotta and romano.
  2. Arterra is fabulous! I have been there on a number of occasions and have enjoyed every meal. Another nice place is Fresh in La Jolla and always S'bicca in Del Mar (Dine upstairs at sunset) La bastide is another story, we went there hoping for great things and the service was just appalling! It was not terribly busy but we sat for a full hour before we got the wine we ordered and waited another 45 minutes before the appetizer arrived. At that point we left because we were concerned that we might starve to death in a restaurant!
  3. My suggestions: Fins for great fish tacos: http://www.fins.net/locations.htm Rockin Baja Lobster for Slipper tail lobsters http://www.rockinbaja.com/test/001 Shozen BBQ for Korean BBQ & Sushi http://www.shozenbbq.com/ Nobu for sushi: (get the dynamite) http://www.nobu.signonsandiego.com/ Indian food (in a strip mall in Mira Mesa that is our little India) http://entertainment.signonsandiego.com/profile/112180/ really great local place for sausage: http://www.thelinkery.com/
  4. Vantaa is a really small town and I found Russo just by chance. I could not tell you the street name. They have a fabulous smoked salmon bruschetta and a very good tomato soup. I was there traveling on business with three colleagues two weeks ago and we ate there a few times. Not terribly elegant, but good food.
  5. I was in Helsinki last week and dined at Kappeli. It is a beautiful site but the food was not the best. Unfortunately I was only able to dine in Helsinki for the one day. My best meals were out of Helsinki. I liked Russo in Vantaa and Alexandra Cafe in Lapeenranta. I hope to go to St Petersburg on my next trip to Helsinki in May so I would appreciate any advice that you might have as well as any advice for really great places in Helsinki.
  6. I did not like beets until last year. I was in Seattle and went to Delia’s. They had a roasted beet salad with Maytag blue cheese, pine nuts and radicchio in a beet reduction. I ordered it because I wanted to be adventurous and it was wonderful!
  7. I also really like Fins fish and shrimp tacos. Inexpensive and delicious. I have been eating there for over ten years and am never disappointed. The lobster burrito is amazing! Near the Fins in Mira Mesa is Lucky Seafood which has a great Pho resturant inside. Great noodles and fresh crab rolls. Another good choice in Sorrento valley is Island Boy Hawaiian food. Plate style, very tasty. Great grilled shimp and lumpia. For Sushi, A hidden treasure is Sushi USA in Rancho Penasquitos. Amazing food and great prices. You can order one roll and they provide enough exotic fruit and edamame to fill you up for dinner.
  8. More examples of great food in SanDiego: S'Bicca(Sister to Meritage) in Del Mar, has 1/2 price wine night Tuesday and Thursday. Japengo is great for Sushi with a twist, innovative combinations. (la Jolla) La Valanecia hotel, great appetizers, wonderful sunset view) For that old world multiple course meal with great dishes and amazing souffle- El Bizcocho in Rancho Bernado (the name has nothing to do with the food style, Bring someone elses credit card.. hehehehe) Har dto fins but worth the wait. Parallel 33. WOW! thats it.
  9. Thanks for the discount information! I really like Marche, the food is good, not always terrribly exotic but tasty. The restaurant is a work of art. I try to go there every time I am in Chicago. My co-workers are there right now I wish I had seen this discount earlier.
  10. I am not going to Vons, Ralphs or Albertsons. I went go to Costo instead. Bought large food. They have nice Flank steak with basil and feta. Now we will be eating the same very large meals...for a few weeks. I agree on the support, tough job, crabby customers, on your feet all day for 20 years..then they yank your pension. Swine. Good excuse to go to Harvest Ranch and Trader Joes though.
