  1. Me too! Those guys are masochistic fools! IMHO. Actually it was interesting to note their different reactions to the heat. Jason sweats & sniffles, but loves it the whole time. Mark just eats the food with a little smile, like he's really grooving to the heat. And their food was, to me, inedibly hot. I think the apps will be mild & medium - their mussels were excellent. Totally different to those had at Wondee's or Bangkok Garden. New Zealand ones, served on the half shell with a thicker, sweetish sauce. We had it HOT, so I only had one with sauce. I'm looking forward to getting to enjoy the sauce. Their soups were really good too. The Moo Ping wasn't as interesting as the dish available at Wondee's, but it wasn't bad either. I enjoyed the piece of duck I snagged off Mark's platter before it got drenched in the hot curry. It was perfectly done & crispy. So, I'll probably order one of their duck dishes.
  2. Train #7257/4757 (what's with the two numbers?) leaves NY at 4:24 PM and arrives in Woodbridge at 5:05 PM.
  3. Could you provide a link? I went to http://www.bergenrecord.com and checked the Entertainment/Dining section and the Lifestyle/Food section and couldn't find what you are referring to.
  4. Duh. Now why haven't I thought of doing that!? Of course, getting the digital scale would help!
  5. Please clarify: do you mean to say the bread machine's bowl has a scale built in so you don't have to separately measure anything? That is really cool, if so and may be worth upgrading my machine. (that is when it gets unpacked after the current kitchen remodel)
  6. Thanks for the head's up. I've edited Shugga's post both here and in the original thread, so the link now works.
  7. I was wondering the same thing.
  8. This relatively new place as been discussed in a couple other threads, but I thought it deserved it's own thread, for those who may not have caught the the others. Fink is serious about barbecue. The real, smoky, low heat kind. We've only eaten there once, but the food is so great, it'll become a habit I'm sure. We will probably do mostly take-out, as it is not far off Jason's route home from work. I like to rate places by how far out of your way it is worth it to drive too. For this area of NJ, there seems to be no other place that is doing this kind of serious 'Q. So if that is something you crave, it is worth a long drive! Below are some posts that appeared in other threads. From "River Edge, Oradell, Emerson, Hackensack": And, from "ISO: Indigo Smoke": Well, that about covers it. I don't know if anyone will feel the need to respond to this thread because it all seems to be represented above! That said, I hope if you do try it you'll add to this thread to keep it in the eye of newcomers. Nice people, who open good local businesses, should be supported, IMO. Re: Counter Seating - I wish there were tables, one table? Fink - Maybe a long, narrow, communal one set up with the bench along the front wall? Re: Barbereuben - I didn't praise it enough. I am a sucker for Reuben sandwiches, and 95% of the time I am so disappointed. Soggy bread, too much cheese, open faced, the atrocities go on. I'd yet to find a Reuben to match my first from the long closed Short Hills Deli. Although it is not an "authentic" Reuben, made as it is with barbecued brisket rather than corned beef. It is an excellent sandwich. Not too stuffed, just the right amount of sauerkraut and cheese, crisply grilled bread. I have a new Reuben standard! 9. Tee hee. For those that don't realize it, Fat Guy is in Canada. Yes, that New Brunswick!
  10. Sounds great, but complicated. Feel free to organize it! Meanwhile we're going to a place in Bogota tonight. There are three that sound decent in recent posts so we're going to drive around and see what we can get into or looks good to us.
  11. How can you post that without further explanation?
  12. Tommy: Thread started by me in April Thread started by Hank in May Saigon Republic Vietnamese Cuisine 58 West Palisades Avenue (across from McDonalds) Englewood, NJ 07632 201-871-4777 phone 201-871-7477 fax Hours: Tuesday through Saturday 11:15-9:15 Sunday, opens at 4 BYOB
  13. What were they supposed to have the best of?
  14. I'm soooo glad you didn't say you were getting a SubZero! Mine, bought in 1996 has had three microprocessors replaced and six repair calls. It sucks big time. That's what we heard from more than one person. Plus my cousin said she is always breaking her nails trying to open the door (not that I have long nails). I think the one we're getting is pretty cool. Isn't it pretty?
  15. We went to Fink's tonight. Jason enjoyed a BBQ sampler and I had the Barbereuben. Excellent sandwich. Got some chicken to go for lunch tomorrow. We'll be back.
  16. Are we going to do this all scientific like, examining each small bite of each type of item. The person who brought the stuff taking notes for their tasting? Or, the more fun way, putting it out with labels showing, buffet style, and allowing everyone to relax and enjoy themselves. But, they will need to take their own notes and report back which of each type of thing they liked best and why.
  17. Put yours on the side and hers in her sandwich. Silly boy.
  18. All this talk of salami reminds me: Arthur Avenue Salami Tasting I suppse we could bring a sampling of some of our favorites - that'll be Jason's contribution.
  19. Uch, gross. I can't take this thread anymore, all these horrible deep dark secrets! Next time try some rye bread with salami and deli mustard.
  20. Both in Tenafly: America (restaurant for moderately special occasions, bar for anytime) Jerry's Osteria - consistantly good service and food. Great to have as a regular place.
  21. Actually it will remain in a very similar layout. We tried many different configurations, but that is really what worked best. I really wanted a range top (gas) and separate wall oven (electric), and/or an island, but they just didn't work. However, the new peninsula will not have the breakfast bar over hang. We never used it that way. Our table & chairs just fit in the dining area and there's no room for the stools or whatever to actually sit there. It is much more used as a prep area, wrap & microwave center. So, the peninsula will be about 10 inches narrower (26" vs current 36"). This space will increase the working area of the kitchen. In addition, the back of the peninsula, facing the dining room, will open for easier access into the corner base cabinet. Living in London, where they're starting to talk about 50-year mortgages to help first-time buyers get into the market, houses seem like incredible luxury items. the perlow's house would be, like, 2 million dollars in london. Or in NYC. But frankly there aren't any real houses with property in either city, are there? Just Brownstones and row houses with a postage stamp garden? Not that we have a lot of propery, our property is about 85 x 100' and most of that is front yard, our back garden is pretty small.
  22. It sounds big, but this is a house not an apartment. Also, the dining area of the kitchen is the only dining area. There is no separate Dining Room. I empathize with you about your kitchen size, we've lived in much smaller places before we bought our house.

    Matzo Brei

Butter is a must. I've tried oil, doesn't work as well.
  24. I'll bring the jam, does it all have to be Strawberry?
