I’m always envious of the delicious winter food that shows up during our summer. Dinner was chicken fillet marinated in grated fresh ginger, honey and soy sauce. Salad included mango and white beans as well as the usual suspects.

My husband has been cooking again… sometimes he has successes and sometimes not ( don’t we all ). There was left over ham in the freezer which he thawed and made a ham and beans pot pie. Let’s just say I would have made a quiche!!!

Like others here perhaps, we were in need of a fish meal so I bought some very fresh monkfish. Shallow fried with a dusting of seasoned flour. Served with salad and scallop potatoes.

Things went awry on New years day as we minded our little grandson 11 months old Freddy, instead of the parents joining us. He’s into everthing, nearly walking and has a big appetite. I ended up cutting 2 steaks off the beef tenderloin ( whole beef fillet )I was intending to roast and serve as thin slices for us all. Instead, my husband and I just had a quick lunch with salad and a potato, in between the darling demands of Freddy. Then come Thurs early dinner and I’ve made a beef Wellington with what was left of the tenderloin. Had it with asparagus and scalloped potatoes with a rich, beef juice, brandy, mushroom sauce. We joyed this as a quieter meal than the day before.

Looks good liuzhou. For my New Years breakfast I had one egg, pan scrambled with green onions and a tiny drop of soy sauce, placed on a seeded sourdough toasted slice. OJ and a cup of tea… lovely start to the year.

Bubble and squeak is an easy way of dealing with leftovers. That is if you like eating it, which I do but husband does not. The comments are not good. Hah!

Wishing everyone a Traditional Greeting for this time of the year from my kitchen to yours. At this time of the year I usually try to present a traditional meal, the kind I used to cook in the UK and which I love, flaming plum pudding and all. I have tried to achieve this other years in my own home albeit with warm temperatures outside. This year we visited one of my sons home and had a younger persons version of the occasion. Very informal, bowls of prawns/ shrimp on the table with the sliced turkey, roast potatoes and salads. I had a wonderful day with the young grandchildren but give me my traditional meal and table every time… next year.?? I am totally aware of a kindly “to each his own”

Dinner last night was lamb kofta, green beans and a sort of tabbouleh salad. I thought it looked like it was meant that nothing was touching but it wasn’t planned that way. I found the photo below taken some months ago. It was chicken schnitzel with fried sweet potato slices and cooked mice… or rather beetroot from my garden.

A pretty typical Sat morning breakfast. A few field mushroom pieces, avocado on toast with a fried egg, small slice of Speck and a few pieces of homegrown tomatoes 🍅 Yay

This meal was on the table in 15 mins. Cut and nuked potato cubes for 6 mins. Sauted onion, garlic, oregano and chilli in a glug of olive oil in a saucepan then added half a can of diced tomatoes. Put lamb steaks in fry pan to gently cook. When potatoes 6 mins in microwave were up, I tipped them into tomato mixture added pepper and salt and stirred them around until lamb steaks were done as we like them... just a tiny bit pink that is more well done than is the restaurant way. Sprinkled parsley, dollop of mint jelly and we're done.

@C. sapidus I asked Google what the difference between shakshuka and huevos rancheros was and the following was one of the answers. Sounds about right. What do you think? Shakshuka and huevos rancheros share similarities as both are egg-based dishes. However, shakshuka is characterized by poached eggs in a tomato and bell pepper sauce, while huevos rancheros features fried eggs served on tortillas and smothered with a tomato-chili sauce.

As I had pomegranate seeds and juice left over from a lunch, I made these savoury pancakes. No recipe, which is often the way I like to cook. Anyway they were quite tasty with green onions and a sprinkle of Parmesan.

Had some of the family over for an early Christmas get together. Some will be away at Christmas so this was a time for us all to catch up. We were going to do a BarBQ but rain was forecast so we decided to just do all cold things inside. People served themselves from a buffet. This was a Coleslaw, I had a pomegranate so I thought I’d add that. A bowl of tomatoes with split green olives and some pickled red peppers. Below…A cold meat platter, I did myself. There was also chicken and a bowl of Russian salad.
