Cherry Marnier

Living in Toronto, unfortunetly I am unable to get my hands on a bottle of Luxardo Marachino, I am always on the look out for some type of cherry liquor.

I saw a bottle today in Vintages of something called "Marnier Cherry" - Looking to be something made by Grand Marnier...

I was wondering if anyone has ever heard of this, better yet, tried it. As well, if it is comparable to Luxardo, for substitutions.

Thanks,

Justin

Cherry Marnier is indeed made by the Grand Marnier people and its rather good ! Its not remotely like Maraschino though. Its an old fashioned cherry brandy , drier and more complex than Heerings. Its made in quite limited quantities and in the UK is often hard to track down.

I was really pleased to find today thar Gerry's (Londons best specialist liquor shop) have just had a new consignement in.

I noticed a couple of years ago that the name on the bottle was no longer Cherry Heering but had been changed to Peter Heering - with "Cherry Liqueur" in smaller print under the name and more recently just the name Heering with the same cherry liqueur below.

I just found this Danish site. with the newer bottle.

"There are, it has been said, two types of people in the world. There are those who say: this glass is half full. And then there are those who say: this glass is half empty. The world belongs, however, to those who can look at the glass and say: What's up with this glass? Excuse me? Excuse me? This is my glass? I don't think so. My glass was full! And it was a bigger glass!" Terry Pratchett
