Well, it Beaujolais Nouveau Day today, and I KNOW it's not a serious wine, and I KNOW it's a silly promotion, but I've always loved the notion of an excuse to celebrate the harvest, the grape, whatever. But Philly, compared to other cities like Washington DC, Seattle, and Dallas, does almost nothing to celebrate the day. I've found ONE event at a Wine and Spirits Store in Wayne on the PLCB WEBSITE, but little else in the area.

Does anyone know of any other BN events today? I miss my days in DC, when Beaujolais Nouveau Day took over the town for a day....

<sigh> Is it time for this discussion again? Oh yes - it's the 3rd Thursday in November!

I think the Wayne PLCB store is the only local state sponsored event. I suspect the only place to go have our annual glass is Caribou, no? I'm sure Olivier cares to stock his bar with it, but I haven't seen much interest from anyone else. Maybe Panorama or Ansill would be likely suspects? If I find anything else out or if my phone calls are returned I'll post back.

Whatever happened to that Savor the Reds party that always happened just about this time every year?

I've also been sent an e-mail informing me that Bistro St Tropez and Caribou Cafe should be doing something, at very least serving up some different bottles of the stuff. Again, any excuse for a celebration.

I admire your fortitude going out in tonight's heinous weather just for the annual glass of cheer. I'm staying in and starting some Thanksgiving cookery and will be working on an autumnal cocktail for pre-prandial libations next week.

I picked up some Beaujolais Nouveau last night at the PLCB store on Chestnut near 12th. They're offering the same two producers they had last year: the Duboeuf and the Leonard de Saint-Aubin. The Duboeuf is meatier than I expected. The Saint-Aubin is not as exciting as last year, but I still enjoy it.

I did a little write-up here: http://philafoodie.blogspot.com/2006/11/20...as-arrived.html

Anyone go to any Beaujolais Nouveau dinners? Did they serve any other producers besides Duboeuf and Saint-Aubin? If so, how were they?

Last evening I stopped in at the Swedesford Road (Gateway Center) PLCB store amidst windswept rain and parking lot floods. There were six (counted 'em) well-dressed folks there serving the ubiquitous Duboeuf. There was a nice spread of snacky food and real glass stemware rather than the usual bathroom plastic cups.

The place wasn't exactly bustling but the traffic was at least steady, the tasting pour generous and everyone was friendly.

Oh yeah! The wine! Strawberry bubblegum and fruit with a somewhat tannic surprise at the end. No finish. In my opinion, not a bargain at $11.99 a pop.
