As someone who lives in "rural Australia": - read Wagga Wagga, I am curious to know if anyone else lives in the land of the lost or just me.

I am curious, for those of us who are not in sydney or melbourne fabulousenss then what do we do for excellent produce etc.

We here in never never rely on Vi''s meats etc to survive. Any other sugestions??

If I remember correctly, Wagga is right smack bang in the middle between Melbourne and Sydney no?

Therefore, it should not be too difficult to get some things sent to you. Mail order via the internet can work wonders. I know people in Ruffy, South Gippsland in Victoria who order every specialty bit and piece in. At the farmer's market in the Collingwood Children's Farm here in town, most meat producers there ship their product around the states by express post, and if ordered in bulk, it works out the same as buying retail from a wanky snooty butcher (sometimes you just have to!).

Which brings me to another point, what about access to local producers in the vicinity? I am not familiar with what is produced in your area, but is that even an option?

Intruiging topic! I'm very interested to see where this goes.

Maybe we could start a listing of internet produce suppliers. I know that for meat, there's at least a dozen suppliers in Victoria and NSW (I'll try and track down the listing from Epicure).

Just to start, here's two:

I haven't explored the Simon Johnson site to any great degree, but there is a link to an online store here:

misgabi,

Firstly, take heart. Even those of us within reach of fabulousness don't get to take advantage of it as often as we'd like. What with cricket and gymnastics and homework, Saturday Mornings just aren't what they used to be.

Before moving to Melbourne we lived in the middle of nowhere. With a little effort we found farmers who were committed to raising exceptional food. The economist who quit city life to raise free range cattle and organic fruits and veggies. The Amish family who supplied us with lamb and pork. We invested in a freezer and in them and we were rewarded with some of the freshest, best food I've ever cooked. Supplemented with periodic internet buying, we ate extermely well.

So, check out your local farmers, you might be pleasantly surprised.

And if you are ever in Melbourne give us a yell.

If only Jack Nicholson could have narrated my dinner, it would have been perfect.
