Teaism

Go to Teaism in Dupont Circle (Asian fusion teahouse) for afternoon tea/snack.  It's not highbrow but it's a nice cozy place to gather your thoughts.  Try the chocolate torte and green tea ice cream dessert.  It.is.divine.

I would second Teaism for a nice cozy place to relax and a light lunch or breakfast. It was featured on Rachael Ray's $40 a Day show. I would recommend the Chai tea. They told me that they have to bring a specialist in to make the blend to capture its true authenticity. It's the best chai I've ever had.

I would also check out Vidalia (http://www.bistrobis.com/vidalia/index.asp) in Dupont. They consistantly get high marks

(Sitting for lamb chops)

Lamb: Ple-e-e-se Li-i-i-sa I thought you lo-o-o-oved me, lo-o-o-oved me

Marge: Whats Wrong Lisa? Cant get enough lamb chops?

Lisa: I can't eat this, I can't eat a poor little lamb.

Homer: Lisa get a hold yourself, that is lamb, not A lamb.

YES! Salty oatmeal cookies are the bomb. So is their iced green tea, salmon bento box, naan, miso mayo dip, jasmine creme brulee and shortbread trio.

I'm a fan of their tuna bento. I'm a big fan of walking into a place during lunch, and walking out with a block of seared tuna and some rice! That's good lunch in my book. As far as desserts go, I join everybody in their salty oat cookie-love, and add mochi. Mooochi. As fun to say as it is to eat.

Good sub-topic line.

Their Asian Slaw is really, really good. I'd love to know how to make that.

Some things on their menu are really delicious (that slaw, oatmeal cookies, french toast, ginger scones) some other things... not so delicious.

I find a huge difference in the quality of the food between Dupont and Penn Qtr. I don't like the food at Penn Qtr at all.

No! The ones at Marvelous Market bite the big one in a bad way. The Teaism ones are these chunky, rough looking grainy mounds of goodness with just a hint of salt. Think of a very rustic, hippy lookin' oatmeal cooky with a tender texture - not at all granola like. The MM ones are flat, not grainy at all and overly salty. Bleah, I say!

Penn Quarter outshines all for location and space but the food's not so hot. I've never been to LS but I always go to Dupont since it's closer. The salmon bento was not as good at PQ. Sometimes the portion size at Dupont can be dubious.

If they bust it out again this summer try their Imli cooler, too. It was available briefly last year. Kind of like a cardamom iced tea, but not really at all. Sweet, sour, tart, a tad salty, and oh so refreshing.
