or even Zuni?

I had a great meal at zuni last week. If you end up there make sure you try their balsamic bloody mary, it's really good.

Civic Center's tough--maybe something in nearby Hayes Valley like Paul K, Citizen Cake, Suppenkuche, Hayes Street Grill or even Zuni?

Good choices. I would add Bistro Clovis, for good and affordable French cuisine.

For REALLY affordable Thai, Lalita Distinctive Thai on McAllister @ Leavenworth, a much shorter walk.

If you feel like slumming, Julia Child's and my fave Vietnamese restaurant is Tu Lan over in wine country at 6th and Market. Get the imperial rolls, shrimp fried rice and shrimp salad. You won't be sorry.
