  1. ← Tell you what - Del Frisco's may be over the top, but I ate there with a friend recently at the bar - and everything was fabulous. Steak was terrific - wine list reasonable. Plus - unlike the others - you get the duplex view of 30 Rock - which your out-of-town visitors will like. Also the service didn't have that "I know everything and you don't" steakhouse jive.
  2. spencer - you're point makes complete (and depressing ) sense. thanks for the tip about zoe's rosie - the town - by the way - is wyckoff - if you have anything even closer it would be much appreciated.
  3. You have all hit on a dilemma that drives my wife and I nuts. We live in western Bergen County - and in an area with SO much money - why are there no great restaurants - at the high or low end? Am I missing something? We've tried em all it seems!! Don't even get me started on Ridgewood. And the ones that are good decide that bigger/fancier is better - which it's not (i.e. Arturo's and Chez Madeleine). I don't want Jersey-fancy. I want great food and professional service in a not-boring atmosphere. Sounds like...Zoe - or Blue Water Grill -- or Patria -- or Gramercy or Balthazar or Union Square --- ah lets just go into Manhattan..........again. If you have ever been to a NNJ restaurant that even approaches these ------ please Help! Only ones I've ever found were Esty Street and Restaurant X all the way up un Congers NY. Thanks for letting me vent.
  4. it's better than it used to be - and definitely better than rain (about which i totally agree)
  5. Yes - it's good - eat there 2x a month or so. Don't get too adventurous - the chicken soup with coconut milk and chili oil is good - also grilled shrimp and chicken w/lemongrass. Pad Thai is Ok.
  6. Definitely Fairway over Zabar's - I buy a lot of Taleggio - it is often overripe (ammonia) at Z. Fairway guys also know more. Joe's on Macdougal - used to live down the street - mozzerella always great.
  7. Yes - Yeah Shanghai - or should I say Yeah
  8. Ed- What do you recommend as the best way to drink Barbancourt?
  9. Regular
  10. Yeah Noodle on Bayard Sunday for lunch (same block as NG Bo) - excellent - especially pan fried noodles. Dumplings good as well.
  11. in response to fat guy's comment about the cheese being cheaper than at fairway - i have to say fairway is worth it - the ripeness and quality are always perfect. a number of times i have sampled overripe, ammoniated cheeses at zabar's. they don't keep the temperature right i guess.
