  1. Varmint, I've got a good friend in West End, NC (looks like in the middle of nowhere, it seems). I'm visiting her in October. By chance would you know of any good Q joints in that area? I'll be driving down from Cincinnati and don't mind a detour or two. Thanks much. ps. I was absolutely drooling at your report and photos. Makes Montgomery Inn ribs seem like pikers.
  2. There's a wonderful cafe with a few outside tables next to Juvenile's Wine Bar in the 2nd. Can't remember the name of it. But it's to the left of Juvenile's. I had a wonderful veal dish for lunch one day. Wouldn't hesitate to go back. Reasonble. About $18 for meal and a glass of wine.
  3. Marc, I did call the restaurant to cancel. Thursday morning at about 11:00 a.m. The woman I spoke to indicated she understood the cancellation was for 2 of the 5 under your name. Perhaps not. I am sorry to hear that the restaurant had to call you.
  4. I don't live in Paris, but I will be there for one month beginning February 27 to celebrate my retirement. I'm not a food expert, by any means. I do love a good meal and over the years have had my most memorable meals in France - usually while on business while someone else is picking up the tab. If you would have me, I'd love to join in if I'm in town.

    Michelob Ultra

I grabbed a six pack of this crap for a recent road trip from CA to OH. My advice: avoid at all costs. It has no flavor - even less than Coors Light. With a funny, mild aftertaste, too. What a waste of money.
  6. Well, as luck would have it, I'm out of triple sec (and Cointreau). However, I had a bit of apricot brandy in the cabinet. Poured some into the mix with a little more crushed iced and blended. Not bad. Still can taste the citrus, but also the fruit. Sounds like it may be the true 'bacardi brain fart.' LOL.
  7. I love these titles! I didn't add anything to this, but with what's left over, I think I'll add some triple sec and see what the result is. Stay tuned!
  8. Yesterday, while having a brain fart, I mixed the frozen Bacardi lime margarita mix with dark rum instead of tequilla. Actually, it was pretty good. Does this drink have a name?
  9. My French pronunciation skills stink. So, could someone please spell out the literal English sound of "Gagnaire." Thanks.
  10. I've always thought that it was not permitted to bring unpasteurized cheese back into the USA and I have not done so. However, a Northwest flight attendant told me that it was OK to bring it into the country. Since I'm going to Paris in February, I'd sure like to be able to bring back some cheese. Anyone know what's the scoop?
  11. Please tell me where this place is. It sounds wonderful. Thanks.

    Worst Beer Ever Tasted

Beer...one of my favorite subjects. Longtime drinker. My Dad used to work in a brewery. Anyone remember Dobler or Hedricks from Albany, New York back in the 50s-60s. Cut my teeth on it sneaking sips when I was a toddler. The very worst beer I have ever had in my 55 years of life now resides in my refrigerator desperately hoping some smuck will be willing to try them- there are 2 of them. The THREE STOOGES BEER from Panther Brewing Co. (never heard of it, either) and WHITE MOOSE (white chocolate beer). UUUUGGGHHH!! Major barf alert. Right up there, though is Little Kings, Weideman, and any other beer they used to brew in Cincinnati. It had to to be the Mill Creek Water.
