  1. I'm a volunteer for a folk music festival next weekend, and have been charged with finding somewhere to take the performers to dinner right after they fly in from various locations before they disperse to the various places they will be staying. The problem is some of them are on flights in that don't arrive at O'Hare until 8 pm. I need to find a place (maybe a diner?), ideally on the northwest side of Chicago, with a kitchen that serves after 9 pm on a Thursday night. It should be quiet enough that a large group can talk in order to make plans for the performances the next day, not too expensive (folk musicians don't get paid much), and hopefully good enough food so as to not dishonor Chicago's reputation. Also, I don't know what these folks eat, so probably nothing too exotic. Pizza is out because that's dinner the next night. I don't get out much late in the evening, so I’m at a loss. I'm hoping that some of you like to eat late at night and can help me out.
  2. The small Dole cans are very good. However, the large Dole cans are "from concentrate" while the small Dole cans are not. I think you can taste the difference. This reminds me of visiting the Dole packing plant in Hawaii when I was a kid. (It is long since closed.) Not only did they give you a taste of the most delicious pineapple while you were on the tour, but the gift shop had a pineapple juice dispenser instead of a water cooler and you could drink all the tiny glasses of amazingly lovely pineapple juice that you wanted.
  3. Hi, this is my first post, but I thought I'd come out of lurk mode because I enjoy hunting things up on the web. Are you sure the drink was in Blueprint? The Martha Stewart website apparently has the Blueprint recipes archived along with the others, but I couldn't find anything called "Gin Dandy" or anything that fit your description there. (Some other yummy sounding drinks though . . . .) However, it is possible that for some reason it just isn't on the site. Your best bet may be to hit the public library if you have any idea what issue it was in. That said, I did find this drink which doesn't have the correct name, but perhaps fits your description (it has gin, Pom juice, and citrus, plus some other things, and it makes a quantity), "Plymouth Gin Holiday Punch": http://www.nybarfly.com/my_weblog/2008/12/...ymouth-gin.html Perhaps it is close to what you remember?
