  1. My local liquor store, (in bumble-foo NJ) never ceases to amaze me and they always have at least 1 dusty bottle left of whatever I'm looking for (and a good selection of Ryes!). I picked up a bottle of St. Germain yesterday. I'm not very good at experimenting with my own cocktails quite yet, but will be searching around (and in this thread) for some cocktails. I'm a rye guy so I might try the sazerac above.
  2. We actually had a pretty bad lunch when I was there last. Food was ok, but I was served yesterdays wine by the glass (a 25$ glass) with about 2 dozen fruit flies in it because all of the bottles were open on the fireplace mantle...I'm guessing all night. When I told the waiter, he didn't apologize, asked if I wanted another, I said sure if you are going to open a new bottle....almost annoyed he did. The rest of the meal, I had to swat fruit flies away (we were sitting by the mantle/fireplace in the corner where all the wine were left opened) I didn't cause a fuss, but figured at least a glass of wine would be comped...not a chance. I wish I could comment more on the food, but I was so annoyed, the food was not every memorable. I believe I had the short rib risotto and my fiance the skate. I actually felt like they were just trying to pawn off the opened wine on us. We look (and are somewhat) young, and when asked some wine suggestions, I felt like they marked us for an easy pawn off of what was opened. (it was a weekday, non crowded lunch) The second glass that was recommended for my entree was pretty much undrinkable...I didn't want to be 'that pain in the ass guy' that complains so I just chalked it up as a bad experience. This was in late july. We've been meaning to give it another try...as it was our first, and we figure everyone has a bad day, and based on all the other good reviews.
  3. Yes they were. I'm lucky my fiance doesn't fancy foie...I snagged hers too. I was ready to scour the rest of the table as well...
  4. Has anyone experimented with using a product like Smooth-sil to make their own molds?? If so, what's your experience? http://www.smooth-on.com/Smooth-Sil%3D-Plat/c1131/index.html The cocktail bar I frequent (Catherine Lombardi in NJ) uses the Ikea ones, I'd like to be able to make my old fashioned's at home with those sized cubes. Anyone know where I can get a mold that size? I see some big rectangular-ish sized ones on ebay, but they may be too big, and too rectangular.
  5. Been a lurker around eG and MF's for a while, we have been meaning to get to one of your dinners and finally, my fiance and I will be there Sat.
