    Burnet BBQ

was the chicken as good as it looks?
  2. i'm with richl2214. unless they've completely revamped their approach and wine list since i was last there about 2 years ago, i'd say Lateral is very much worth missing. for a good time walk across the street to the Franklin Steakhouse. leave your wife/girlfriend/daughter/mother at home, though.
  3. i couldn't find anything on it on their website, though. i googled my ass off for about 20 minutes and couldn't come up with anything, although i know that i've seen a pic of it on the internet in the past. i was tempted to drive down there yesterday to snap a shot. and grab a few dogs.
  4. christine, do you partner with a wine store or distributor for these things? if so, who for this one?
  5. I live very close to Delawanna Ave. What house are you talking about? Near the Train Station? ← i'm guessing it's that "castle house". featured in Weird NJ over the years.
  6. these people seem to know their NJ BBQ.
  7. Much respect to you. That's called professionalism. ← it should also be the minimum entry requirement into the field. ← if it was really an absolute requirement, restaurants would not be able to properly staff their floor. being a waiter is, after all, a job. sometimes you just don't want to be there that day (or at all).. but you do it, because its work. how many people truly really love their jobs, all the time? ← it seems that you're missing your own point, which was it's not about loving your job every day. it's about customer service. and it should be the minimum entry requirement into the field. clearly it's not, as there are so many piss-poor servers in the world.
  8. edited because i thought it was a reference to nitrous, in which case i figured hitmanoo could just bring it along. so, nevermind. oh, and, the burger at Brady's at the Station in Ramsey is pretty bad.
  9. Much respect to you. That's called professionalism. ← it should also be the minimum entry requirement into the field.
  10. It must have been their desire to please me, their most regular customer. Yeah, right. the only person to even acknowledge you was the guy who *wasn't* serving us. and the only one to have a pulse as far as i could tell. just our luck. i should add that the fries were very good as well. we should hit AAG for them calamari. do you know if Lou serves any sparkling wine by the glass? bubbles and fried: mmmmmm...
  11. Not golfers....gophers! the burger was quite something. nice and big, too, but not too big. i really don't know how they got it to cook so evenly and perfectly, given its thickness.
  12. Well, Blimpie and Subway bake their own bread on premises, and it tastes like a limp dishrag... ← i do believe that they simply finish the bread on premises. not knowing much at all about pastries, i can't imagine that any supermarket is going to come anywhere near balthazar or the michael fellow. however, i can see how there are probably plenty of somewhat reasonable options at some supermarkets if that's your bag. in fact, i picked up a ciabatta from Stop and Shop the other day, and it was quite decent enough for a Sunday sandwich when no bakeries were open for bread. it was part of the best tuna sandwich. ever.

i don't find the quality of the sushi and sashimi to be particularly high or notable. in fact, it looks tough and fatty. like scraps. the BBQ selections are quite good, and you'll often find a line of people fighting over the stuff. worth the fight.
  14. well, it's not bergen county, but it's not all that far if you're out and about. dbrociner has been speaking highly of Copeland in Mo-town. specifically, the burger and eating that burger at the bar. dbroc waxes on the thing here. so last night i took the 30 minute ride out to Mo-town to meet with dbroc and see for myself. he was right. this is a very, very good burger. highly recommended. now, if they could just get rid of all of the hotel guests and lackluster bartenders, they'd be onto something.
  15. where's this? is it new? thx. ← barista has some info. a quick google turns up a bunch of myspace pages. that's always kinda sucky when you're looking for real info.

trust you? no, i think i'll trust me. i've been to china 46 about 150 times, and i can count the times that cecil and/or connie hasn't been there on one ear hair. as far as eg staffers pushing the place, there was a time when founder jason perlow was down on the place, and i was pushing it. and i, you are assured, am about as far from an "egullet staffer" as the egullet staff can hope. really, though, i'm not sure i get the comparison of a japanese buffet with china 46. i really don't get it. not to mention that when i go to minando, i spend more than i've ever spent at china 46. there's really no comparison. although, i don't agree with hank that the food is god awful. there's plenty to choose from and some items are very decent. most notably, the cold salads...which may or may not be worth the 25 dollar tariff. adam p, you can make those chops at home, sort of: http://tommyeats.typepad.com/photos/cooking/img_0953.jpg i crave this flavor sooo much. there's something magical about it, i'm convinced.

i keep picturing the pepper and salt pork chops, and that's getting me veeeeery hungry.
  20. can i assume that you're not stranger to the Parker or maybe even Lift the Latch? i found myself driving through the EP today and stopped into the River View East. i had 1 all the way, and sat outside to enjoy it. it was quite good. right up there with F&J, and just different enough to set it apart. i could have spent the whole afternoon out there, staring at the trees, pretending to have a view of the river. i didn't, but i could have.
  21. for pigs in a blanket, there is no choice other than their little franks.

    The Mojito

you've clearly never met my guests. i'm looking for the least possible work for my guests. i don't mind doing work beforehand.
  23. i've been meaning to try this place. this cinches it. and, so, you're another one of those people who claims J&H isn't as good as it "used to be". well, i ask, is *anything*?
  24. i read "powdered ketchup" about 10 times. now i see: powered. the fries are pretty good. they can get soggy, though. if you order a large, bring 5 people to help you eat them. but they are full of potato flavor. this i know for sure.
  25. please to esplain.
