  1. does anyone know if/when season 2 of no reservations will be released on iTunes...

I dunno, but I wish they'd release seasons 1 and 2 on something other than iTunes or DVDs that are $10 for two eps. The first is annoying because I can only watch it on my slow-ass laptop or my iPod, and I just plain can't afford the second. (If I could, I would, believe me.) Travel Channel, are you listening?

Eh. Prolly not. If they were listening to me, there'd be an all-Bourdain, all the time channel by now. :raz:

There is this from amazon it's four disc box set.

Amazon.com: No Reservations (4pc): DVD: Anthony Bourdain

    Cool, thanks!

  2. The Pac Northwest show was kind of lame too.  I realize that it's on a different network now and not all about the food, but come on.  THAT'S all LA has to offer?  I've only lived in Portland for 3 years and I can tell you that there is more interesting stuff going on than he showed.

Eh, I've been in Portland about 14 years and I thought it was great. He only had half of a one-hour show for us, and he works for the Travel Channel, not the Portland Chamber of Commerce.

  3. And is it just me, or did Ilan and Sam throw Elia under the bus on that whole Marcel cheating thing?  They egged her on to get her to say something, and then didn't have a word of support or evidence themselves.

They absolutely did. Just like they did to Cliff the week before.

  4. My God, the whining tonight! Seriously, that crap at the end was nothing more than tattling "He wasn't nice to me!" I work with preschool-thru-elementary aged kids, so I know me some tattling when I see it.

"He's been cheating all along!" Really? Then why didn't you say something before now? Where's your proof? If you have proof of cheating, then say so. Otherwise, shut up. And for God's sake, Elia, stop talking about how you were Marcel's only friend when you've been badmouthing him as much as everyone else. Also, cut it out with the "Some people" routine. When there's only four of you, and three of you don't like the other guy, it's pretty obvious who you mean. At least have the stones to own your tattling. Even my littlest kids will at least name names.

  5. It was brought up as an excuse for why he could not sample wines for his pairings in this episode as well.

Two get eliminated tonight. Should prove interesting.

I thought that had come up. So then, the question becomes, did he drink that night, or was he just acting the fool?

  6. One last note.. someone said something about Sam being diabetic and the drinking.. diabetics can drink alcohol, just in moderation like everyone else should and preferably on a full stomach

True, but he drank enough to make all that stuff that went down seem like a good idea. Mind you, I'm diabetic and I get tipsy on occasion, but then again, I'm not bringing up my diabetes to excuse why I can't cook a dessert. (My excuse for that is that I'm lazy. )

  8. I think the Producers got it wrong and Tom C. got it right. I am not a lawyer, but it seems patently obvious that Cliff committed assault and battery. The other three not only didn't step up and say, "Knock it off," but they were involved in planning the crime. The word for that is conspiracy. I've seen still photos of Marcel storming out of the room after the assault, and they show Elia with a full head of hair. The timeline that aired is not accurate and tries to show Elia, Ilan, and Sam in a better light than they deserved. Elia and the other guy (was it Sam or Ilan, I forget) shaved their heads after the assault.

Wow, that puts a whole different face on everything, doesn't it?

I disagree that Marcel milked this. He seemed to be pretty quiet about it, just from what we saw. And while I don't think Cliff should be charged with anything, I do think what he did was not only out of line on the everyday level, but not the kind of behavior anyone should have been displaying at this late stage in the competition.

  9. All in all, a great episode but for one glaring exception...  where's the coffee?  I mean, how in the hell do you do an episode on Seattle and Portland without doing at least 2 minutes in an espresso bar?!

Tony, I know you must've shot some footage.  Did it get cut out in the edit?

(BTW, I love the gypsy restaurant idea.)

Right??? I don't know how he managed to miss Stumptown Roasters, for instance.

  10. As a native of Ghana that episode hits close to home. Tony did a good job in showing the real Ghana. The apetheshie (the vodka like liqour) that Tony was drinking is very strong. Its known in parts as widow maker. My parents tell me that some people who have drank it and not been able to handle it have gone blind.   He really did everything that a true Ghanian would have done, even eating fufuo w/ his hands (may have to work on the technique). Cheers & well done Tony!

<sales pitch>If anyone is thinking of visiting an African country, Ghana is the place to go (and i'm not just saying this because I was born there). 1) It is the safest country in that region, 2) Ghanians are known to be the friendliest Africans, and 3) English is the national language <sales pitch/>.

I really enjoyed this ep - one of the teachers at my son's school was from Ghana (he left recently to focus on the school he wants to open back home.)

  11. I think I just saw the future of fine dining, and Tony Bourdain was there!

    The Gypsy Chef!

    Brilliant!

SB (and did I maybe recognize one of the diners?)

    Aroo? Which one?

This was an awesome show. He made my quirky little town look wonderful, which it is, of course. Loved the serial killer reference, too. :raz:

Awesome! If that was Ling with the redred hair, she are very cute! I loved the Otter Pop idea and the Pop Rocks. I love people who have fun with food.

  13. All the brewhaha over FOH practices. Sorry but TOP Chef's aren't ever really going to be schooled in FOH. Yes, eveone does a rotation in school, but they're in the kitchen because that's where they belong. They should have schooled the help better IMO. But then again, where was the time to do that?

It looked way too much like a half a**ed attempt at a Hell's Kitchen episode. That woman! "It's overdone," come on lady you're getting a free meal and you're not a restaurant critic, just someone who watches too much reality tv!

Who should have gone home? Whoever thought of this challenge!

I agree with the FOH stuff. A chef should have a basic grasp of what goes on FOH, but expecting him to wait tables and be good at it, especially his first time at it, is like pulling your head waiter into the kitchen and expecting him to work dinner service.

  14. That's a big change from a year ago...I wonder where you'll be next year?!

I am very happy for you and your family.  I wish the picky eaters I know would see your letter- sadly- I think they just wouldn't get it.

    Jennifer

Well, I think it's something you have to be ready to change. I mean, my husband tried for years to get me to try new things and for the most part I was having none of it. But I sort of got to this place where I actually wanted to try new foods. That was right about the time I started getting into food-related things, and then I saw Tony in action and got inspired.

  15. Marcel can truly be a little irritating, but the response of Sam and Betty and Ilan to the irriatiation is really out of bounds.

I mean, how many of us have a coworker that rubs us the wrong way, and how many of us could get away with dealing with it by screaming insults and shooting off personal attacks as a legitimate response?

If it really is a top chef cometition, then in addition to cooking, a chef has to be able to deal rationally with other people.

Not to mention, not whining about someone "snapping" at you. He didn't snap, and that whole thing of "let's not take his dishes out?" Who did they think that would actually reflect badly on, exactly? Not Marcel, that's for sure. Grow UP.
