  1. Hey there wonderful world of eGullet! My sig. other and I are headed to the fantastic sin city known as Las Vegas for 3 or 4 nights in April. Its sort of a vacation/celebration of various promotions and raises he and I have gotten in the last few months, and I must say, I am SUPER excited! Being that neither of us gamble (I know, we're going to Vegas and we don't gamble, its crazy!), it gives us a much bigger budget to spend on hotel, food, and shows. We've decided that the Luxor will be the place to stay (Pyramid Spa Suite), and the 3 shows we cannot miss are Penn & Teller, Circ, and Elton John (Ok, that one is more me then him, but god that man can sing!). One thing I know very little about is the dining in Vegas. I have read through this thread, and so far, it has given me some GREAT ideas....Too many I think! I am much more adventerous in my food choices then my sig. other, who is a very picky eater. But if there is chicken or steak on the menu somewhere, we are probably ok. I love almost all food, minus anything very spicy or anything with mango (damn allergy). Also, we would like to basically stay on or close to the strip. Places mentioned in this thread so far that are of great interest to me; The Buffet at the Bellagio, Mesa Grill and Circo. We'll have a decent budget, and will probably eat mostly lunch and dinner. Thanks so much for any help!!!
  2. Hello all! You'll have to forgive my lack of know how here.... About 2 months ago, I invested in 2 fantastic Shun knives (7" Chef and 3.5" Paring). They are wonderful knives and I don't work a day without them. But the time has come to where I am going to need to sharpen these babies up. I ordered Shun's whetstone (300 grit and 1000 grit) and it arrived yesterday. And that's where I am. I am not totally certain on the care and upkeep of the whetstone, if I need oil, or even how I am supposed to sharpen properly. I have read several articles, which say to start with the 300 grit side, sharpen at a 20 degree angle, 10-20 swipes, and then do the same on the other side. The directions that came with the stone say to keep it in water for 5 minutes prior to use. Any help and advice would be appreciated!! IAmQuidam
  3. I work in a resturant where we offer basic sandwiches. Quite a few people order tuna fish mixed with egg salad.... Which by itself isn't to bad. But when you put swiss cheese, onions, hot sauce AND mustard on it all and 'demand' it be mixed together before putting it on the bread....then it gets weird. I like all of those things....alone, but mixed up? Yuck!
  4. We will be in Orlando in 2 weeks, and yesterday I just realized it will be the food and wine fest. I have been several times in the past, and I have always had a good time. Epcot is really the only disney park I ever visit, and having the F&W fest there when I go is just an added bonus! Once I go, I will type up a report!
  5. Hey everyone! First time poster (but hopefully not the last - I love this place!!!). Seeing as we will be staying at "The Dolphin" Disney Resort, I thought this was a good place to start. I am a Florida native, but have always avoided the Disney scene. But hey, this is a free vacation! I am going to take full advantage of it! There have been many great suggestions here by all of you....so many that I don't know how I will ever choose where to eat (Thank god the trip is still 3 weeks away!). The Chef that I work under is from Orlando, and he has reccomended that I try a place called "Wasabi's". I've googled it, and haven't found many reviews (Yes, I know this isn't a Disney resturant, just a general area suggestion). I am going to try to hit up Jimmy Buffett's resturant for lunch one day (Also, not a Disney resturant, but Universal's City Walk), as I am a total Parrothead, and I like the atmosphere. The music helps too My other half is a picky eater, so making decisions on where to eat for 5 days is going to be tough. Thanks for all the great suggestions, and keep em comin! -IamQuidam
