  1. Or could it be a post modernist, Blumenthalesque masterstroke? Create the tension before being cocooned by the food.... On second thoughts, no-one has thought about the music..but at least I got Heston into the thread again It is amazing what some places play though. Happy hardcore and fine dining won't ever be comfortable bedfellows I fear, but it doesn't appear to stop some people trying I
  2. What!! Are you implying that we're loose with our morels? I
  3. Contact the Environmental Health dept. at the local council for the restaurant. I
  4. Ha ha. Cloud 23 I've not even bothered with so far, after hearing so many bad reports. I think the all time classic has to be making Hilton residents que with everyone else to get in! (They can't possibly have maintained that policy, surely?!?) I seem to remember that The Radisson had the novel idea of putting house spirits and mixers on a large python/gun! And then charged (if memory serves me..) about 8 quid for a large one...! Lasted about a week before free pouring came in with bottled mixers..(having hired staff who could free pour in the first place!!) Hotels, strange beasts. I
  5. Lindas Pantry- Aah the memories... used to have an office in Ducie House, so was a regular there for a couple of years. Panacea. Saturdays are crap. Full of out of towners (or bridge and tunnel as the NY board call them!) looking for a fight. Not just in Panacea, everywhere. Fridays on the other hand, are full of people who work in town and so is quite a good catchup, networking night. Good for a cop -off as well Although I was asked in all seriousness once, "are you rich?" On the ownership front, I was under the impression that Joe Akka had a slice of the equity along with IRG...? As Danny Betesh (Kennedy Street) is a close relative, I can't see funds being a problem Door policy. Get your face in there early evening midweek a few times, and have a chat to the doormen now and again...sorted. And don't turn up in jeans and trainers when it's busy at 11.30, and expect to get in. I
  6. Obviously oblivious to the competition that is the great Greggs cheese and onion pastie for far less moolah. (The best hangover cure ever) Pah, Lowry, are you mad! I
  7. Gaucho cheeseboard appears to be part of their "bespoke menu", which I presume is their version of a tasting menu? http://www.gaucho-grill.com/menus/ Juniper open from 12-2pm on Sat. Never done lunch there, just eve. ALC/tasting. http://www.juniper-restaurant.co.uk/ Lounge Ten not open for Sat lunch according to the website, but having eaten there a few times I wouldn't rely on the WS being accurate, just inconsistent! http://www.lounge10manchester.co.uk/index.htm Harvey Nichs. http://www.harveynichols.com/output/Page127.asp Lowry. Again never done lunch, might be a bit souless unless busy. Foods good though. http://www.thelowryhotel.com/restaurant1.html I
  8. http://www.bestofbothworlds.blogspot.com/s...thern%20Ireland Some accounts from the court proceedings. Seems she may have made some statements as factual, rather than opinion. I
  9. I'll have to be carefull how I put this, but an ex taxi driver has the dough to start a restaurant called "goodfellas" and then has the dough to pursue a defamation case through the courts from 2000 to now! (no puns about pizza bases and dough please....) That must have been one hell of a taxi! Or did he have backers with rather a lot of "disposable" cash... I wonder if Kim S or any other Belfast EGulleteers can shed any more light on this.(whilst retaining their kneecaps obviously) I (who really lives in the congo)
  10. More here on defamation and libel. http://www.bbc.co.uk/dna/actionnetwork/A1183394 I
  11. ...suffers blackouts now and again...get yourself a laptop. I
  12. could it be to do with the location? I imagine leases on appropriate sites don't come up that often. Maybe they saw an unexpected opportunity and grabbed it. I know from my own experience that things don't always happen at the perfect time for the grand plan so maybe it was sooner than hoped. I am speculating of course. ← Along the same lines. Investors tend to be rather impatient types in my experience as well. So it could well be that they're interest will only be held whilst TA is seen as "hot", hence the hurry up. Otherwise you risk being a one hit wonder.(Which quite possibly doesn't make much profit ) I
  13. "This custard is not custard" Not much of a review for someone with his reputation Who will guard the posters? Errr, that'll be the moderators then..... A circular discussion that can go nowhere....so a bit like philosophy then. I
  14. I think her point is perfectly valid. The democracy isn't affected, you simply let registered users recommend a post as having worth, and that poster builds up a reputation built on the opinion of the users. It's how the rest of society works, isn't it? Meritocracy (well, ideally anyway ) If you want to see it action have a look at the discussion boards on The Motley Fool financial site. http://boards.fool.co.uk/Index.aspx I don't think Karl Marx will be turning in his grave over it... I
  15. As a semi-retired sound engineer who hates reflective acoustics in busy restaurants, this is a big plus Especially if you get seated next to a load of Chavs or Hooray Henrys/Henriettas Pass the Glock....(not a wine I hasten to add...) I
  16. http://www.london-eating.co.uk/reviews-we-cant-print.asp Perhaps L'atelier had some lawyers look at whether the reviews were defamatory/slanderous? If they were they could have threatened LE with action. It happened to a financial site I subscribe to (accusations of being a boiler room!), and even though the site won in court, they still removed all traces of the spat... I had a couple of reviews knocked back by Sugarvine a few years ago for slating the restaurants concerned. SV were worried about losing advertising revenue. I
  17. sometime after the second bottle ← or trip more likely ← I was thinking that it isn't only his coffee that's Columbian I
  18. Whoever wrote the text for your website needs to be hung, drawn and quartered...very slowly. ← Just had a look at the site, have to agree with Andy. There are problems with the construction, grammar and punctuation of the text on the homepage. Bearing in mind where you are pitching yourselves price wise, it might be an idea for your web designer to have a look at some of the top end restaurant websites, before updates are applied. I appreciate that any business start up is a mad rush to get completed on time (been there , got the T-shirt), and things will always need tweaking. However your website is available to the whole planet, so making sure it's pretty much spot on is very important IMHO. Some of the font choices could do with being looked at as well. HTH I
  19. Eating at the French at the Midland in about an hour. Will report tomorrow. Casino-big hitters? Nah I have several aquaintances that are involved with the 235 Casino (£13 million and counting to build). It's not happening, very rarely busy enough to justify it's size, not been thought through properly for the local market. Both restaurants are starting to do promotions and are only busy Fri/Sat, and even then not consistently. This eastlands thing will be a white elephant I wreckon. There's too many casinos already competing in Mcr. I
  20. Not forgetting the wonderfull Temple of Convenience in Manchester. Full house about thirty people I
