  1. I still remember my first viewing of the commercial for this atrocity. Me: Oh, good lord. Why don't they just go ahead and call the paramedics, whenever someone orders that thing? ThatGuy: I can get all that, in one bowl? Mmmmm. Sigh. Much work to do on ThatGuy's palate. Or lack thereof.
  2. stephenc, I love those Gibble's chips! You're right about them being hard to find, though. I sometimes substitute Utz Red Hot Potato Chips. Not quite of the volcanic magnitude of Gibbles, but close! Still makes the Kruncher Jalepeno Chips look tame, by comparison. Unfortunately, I also like the really low-brow Flamin' Hot Cheetos. Can't say that my tastes are terribly cultured, where my spicy snacks are concerned. But I'd never turn down a wasabi pea. Yum!
  3. Four hours, 20+ course tasting menu, at La Terazza in Madrid. For anyone who is looking for a decent El Bulli substitute, try La Terazza. Ferran Adria designed the menu, down to the melon "roe" and parmesan "ice cream sandwiches" Tony Bourdain experienced at El Bulli in his television special "Decoding Ferran Adria." Since I'll probably never score reservations at El Bulli, that will probably live as the best meal I'll ever have. Until I hit French Laundry...
  4. Initially, and I'm speaking from the perspective of one usually up against a hangover when this happens, I reach for Coca-Cola (the original; accept no substitutes) and plain Saltine crackers. I also stock real ginger ale, from the health food aisle/store. The kind that will verify to you it truly contains ginger, unlike the "ginger flavoring" you'll get in something like Schwepps or Canada Dry. The taste is rather sharp, however. If you can't get past that, on a weak tummy, it obviously won't help. When the sickness isn't tummy-related, but I'm running a fever, nothing satisfies me like mint chocolate chip ice cream. Very cooling. Got me through a seriously bad night with chicken pox, when I was a kid. I've held to it, ever since. I'm definitely going to keep that congee tip, in mind. Thanks!
