About Me
Let's see ... I'm born and raised in Cleveland, of Irish, Polish, English, and Slovak ethnic stock. I've got reddish hair (now thinning) and a red beard (stlll going strong after 18 years). I'm a lifelong east sider, educated in the suburban public schools, with a History B.A. from Bowling Green State University, an MA in History from Cleveland State, and nearly done with a Ph.D. from Kent State University, though I doubt I'll finish. I've worked for years in the nonprofit world, and I also work in higher education, and I love it, because my job helps to make a difference. I'm engaged to a non-Clevelander (she's from Massachusetts, and while she misses Mass., she loves the cost of living in Cleveland), and she's really helped my food passions grow. She bakes all sorts of things, and really encourages me to try things, and she also tries things as well. A good weekend for us is going to the West Side Market and then hitting about a half-dozen other ethnic markets, in search of neat ingredients, or just to see what we can see. We are currently engaged, and are planning a marriage on Cape Cod, home to some of our favorite seafood experiences (the lobster rolls at Nickerson's Fish Market on the Chatham Fishing Pier are perfection!), and our annual vacation spot. In short, I lead a good life. Not the most exciting, but I'm perfectly satisfied with it.
