I read all these reports and nearly didn't go - but in the end we decided to give it a try when on our holiday recently, and I had no complaints. We went for the seafood platter which was excellent quality and value. The restaurant was fit to bursting and I didn't see any food being returned, nor heard any complaints.

Well, I wouldn't quite agree with that. I have received more than one letter regarding uppity service at La Chronique. Never happened to me, but I can see where they are coming from. ← I found the exact opposite - they are immensely helpful.

We recently went to Montreal on holiday. La Chronique is excellent , and certainly its style leans towards the traditional French. We didn't bother with Toque in the end after some quite negative comments heard, so I can't give a direct comparison, but you will definitely enjoy Chronique!
