  1. I don't see Shiner ever in the Philly area. I like it - it reminds me of Yuengling lager - which it seems is a good comparison in terms of quality and availibility. When I visit my wife's family in Louisiana - I always grab a case of Shiner and Abita to bring home.
  2. Hey all, Having a small family thing at my house Sunday and was planning to have a hoagie tray. I usually do Chickie’s – but they are closed Sundays. I was disappointed my last trip to Primo’s. Any good recommendations? I mainly do Italian and veggie. Ideas and thoughts are appreciated. Mike
  3. Andrew and Holly. Thank you for the welcome as well as the tips. We are lucky to be in a great food and sandwich city. Having the ability to frequent Louisiana twice a year - I am fortunate to have two great cities to experience. Mike BTW - Of all the food in Louisiana and Philly my wife has experienced - the Veggie hoagie at Chickie Deli is by far her favorite food item -How about that!

Andrew, The real question is - after you sort out your beer dilemma - when is this party and are we invited? :) Mike
  5. Who makes the best soft pretzels? I like the ones from Federal in South Philly. I think the ones I get at stores on Penn's campus are supplied by them. They are good but are thick. I prefer a thinner soft pretzel. My favorite is Furfari's on Frankford ave in Fishtown. They are thinner and sometimes crispy. I like 'em. Grew up eating those! Any others? Mike

Yeah - try Yards directly. They have some really cool people there - they might let you buy direct
  7. Great topic Paul. I appreciate your willingness to share in your ride. I wish you the best of luck. For those of us that have considered starting our own business (food or other venture) - this is great insight. Mike
  8. I ventured onto this board via Holly's site - now I join the ranks of posting! I know this original post is dated but I will chime in. I am a lifelong Philly guy - but my wife is from Louisiana. I have been to the grocery and the Muffaletta is a great sandwich - I think they use a round roll though. I will have to try this hoagie that resembles it. Any Louisiana transplants lurking in the Philly/NJ area? Any Louisiana/Cajun/Creole places in this area anyone recommends? Mike
