  1. leblon is right next to copacabana so if you have any good suggestions there please let me know, thank you!
  2. I am staying in Leblon. I can't believe there are no postings on there for RIO, I searched all of egullet. Any suggestions would be great.
  3. I have 2 days in Rio before heading off to a spa, any tips on places to eat?
  4. I lived in the Caribbean for several years in St Vinent and got plenty of rum tasting experience there. Isnt there a well known dark rum from Trinidad? Cockspur maybe, not sure if that is from Barbados. The local white rum in St Vincent was called Sunset "Very Strong Rum". I took my nail polish off with it once. After that i stuck to dark rum. Ok, i just looked the your website, what a great rum resource! I have been looking for Babancourt everywhere and no one ever seems to have it.
  5. I lived in the Caribbean for 4 years and have to say the food is generally horrible. The main reason is that they just can't get great product over there. I have seen chicken and meat shipped in on boats from the US and it looked pretty damaged and was definitely not kept cold. If you eat anything, you should eat fish and other locally available items (as you should in any place). Overall, i think Barbados, Trinidad and Puerto Rico have the best food although i have heard great things about Cuba but have never been. I think the key is MORE PEOPLE=BETTER FOOD. The smaller the island population, the worse the food since there is less available. Trinidad is really unique since it has a great combination of Indian/Chinese/African influences which meld together in great ways. My favorite thing there is a corn chowder they serve in huge vats right on the street.
  6. can anyone recommend a good restaurant in or near Easton, PA. I'm visiting my parents in a few weeks and would like to avoid the Olive Garden and local diner this time and bring them out to a nice restaurant. They have lived there about 3 years and i have spent a lot of time there but have still not found a good restaurant (although there is a really good local frozen yogurt place). I am willing to drive 30 minutes from Easton. Any suggestions?
  7. We use quinoa and have found it very popular on our menu. Many people were concerned about the carb content and after doing research I found out that quinoa is actually a seed and not a grain hence it is much lower in carbs and higher in protein that most grains. I love it since its got a light texture and does not make you feel too full like many other grains. Also good for people with gluten sensitivity. I personally would eat it for taste but I think many people choose it for health reasons. Would love to use amaranth and have been hearing many people talking about it lately. My boyfriend predicts it will be the new hot thing on all the restaurant menus. A few cooking sites mentioned that it should be mixed with another grain to combat the stickiness. I just posted a new topic about amaranth leaves. Just heard some local farmers chatting about it and am very curious.
  8. Forgot to mention the pigeon in some type of puff pastry that had a very cinnamony flavor at an Algerian restaurant in Paris. It was quite good.
  9. Thanks for the feedback. I recently started a similiar company in the San Francisco area and was curious about how they were doing. It sounded like the food got great reviews but never heard a lot of great feedback on Thresher.
  10. Has anyone tried Leaping Salmon lately? I think they are still sold at Thresher stores. I am curious if they are still around and if the quality has gone down since they were acquired by Thresher.
  11. I just read about a new pizza place that guaruntees 15 minute delivery. The only way they can do it is by actually making the pizza in the back of the delivery truck! I guess these vans or trucks are actually licensed restaurants in Canada. Sounds like a pretty ingenious idea.
  12. I lived in the Caribbean for a few years and was served "manacou" for lunch one day which ended up being POSSUM (too many little bones). A week later, some young boys on the street were selling iguanas (NOT for pets). My friend ended up buying all of them and setting them free. I have to admit I am still curious about what they would have tasted like.
  13. thank you Rachel, I did a search but didn't do a Google search until now. How will I fit all these great places into a weekend? I also saw a write up about a great taco place in Gourmet magazine so my list will just keep getting bigger Christine
  14. Here is a link to the SF Chronicle article on food bloggers: http://www.sfgate.com/cgi-bin/article.cgi?...FDG00BJAGE1.DTL We recently started a new Bay Area food company and have found that the food blogs that write about our business send much better customers to us than any mainstream press. We have an PR agency and have gotten great write ups but the blogs are more trusted by many readers. They are definitely going to be the future of the new "word of mouth" marketing, i have seen a dozen seminars on it in the last month. On another note, if have a blog and are looking for more information on tracking your users and their habits you should check out ClickTracks.com or WebTrends.com. Most of the blogs i think provide pretty basic tracking but if you are able to integrate some of these other services you can get invaluable information.
  15. well i cant imagine that someone on this website would post something thats was NOT worthwhile but I am just looking for places not found in your everyday guide book. Looking for: restaurants, street vendors, markets, etc
