  1. Just got my response this morning too... and, we're in! (I sent my request on 10/13.) We're going in early June for my birthday. I have the same question -- where to stay.
  2. Thanks to everyone who responded! We are going to Tokyo also, so perhaps we'll have the opportunity to try Cafe 8.
  3. Whoops! Yokohama, not Yokoma! Typed too fast.
  4. My husband and I will be traveling in Japan in a few weeks and need some help rounding out our restaurant plans. We will be visiting Yokohama and would love to have some Chinese food. Everything I've read so far says that Chinatown is terribly touristy. We're looking for a high-end or mid-end restaurant, preferably Cantonese, that is not too terribly touristy. So far, in my reading, Heichinrou sounds OK. Anyone been there? Anyone have other suggestions? In Kyoto, we're trying to settle on a Shojin-Ryori restaurant. Would love something serene with a nice aesthetic as well as good food. There are so many choices, it's been hard to narrow down. Thoughts or recommendations?
  5. rjwong -- I just want to make sure that since it's a new restaurant, it's not so much of a scene, that it's not enjoyable. Also, the prices are high, which is fine with me, but I want to make sure that the food and the service warrant the prices. Thanks. Malibugal
  6. Has anyone been to Michael Mina's StripSteak at the Mandalay Bay? I'm thinking of taking guests there next week. The menu looks great, but I want to make sure it's a good experience for my guests.
  7. Does anyone know a good online source for stoneground grits?
  8. My husband and I travel to Amsterdam regularly, so we are fairly familiar with the restaurant scene. However, we haven't been in about a year. Are there any new restaurants that you would recommend we try?
  9. Jaymes, you guessed it right. We're arriving in Anchorage around noon on a Friday, staying one night at the hotel Captain Cook, and then renting a car and driving to Whittier the next day to get on the ship. On the ship, we'll be stopping at Skagway, Ketchikan, and Juneau. I did a similar cruise a few years ago (for business) and loved it, so this time the whole family is going.
  10. Does anybody know if/when king crab legs could be found fresh in Anchorage, or would they be found only frozen like in the lower 48?
  11. Thanks everybody. Jaymes -- I'll only be there one night.
  12. I'll be in Anchorage this June with my family and will be celebrating my birthday while there. Any ideas for a restaurant for dinner? I'd be especially interested in fresh seafood. We'll be staying downtown.
