  1. Was at CW this evening and they were advertising a 2001 Bordeaux(Pauillac) that was supposedly made from the grapes of a first growth estate (which I found out was Latour) The wine was on sale for $26.99 down from $29.99. The ad said one of the best values you will ever find for any vintages. The label on the bottle says 2001 Pauillac bottled by Ulysse Cazabonne. Has any one tried this wine yet and can someone tell me if there is any thruth behind the hype or am I a victim of advertising.
  2. For every other contestant, this was their first time in "kitchen stadium" as well, but they did manage to plate 5 dishes. Roberto should not have been throwing flour in the air.....he should of focued more on the scallops
  3. Ouch Roberto. First chef not to finish all five dishes!!
  4. Does Wide World of Wines advertise on Monday? I don't recall ever seeing ads from them. How are there prices relative to the other usual suspects?
  5. Even a formerly reliebale wine guy from another shop seems to have gotten a little full of himself since he's moved uptown. I was at CW yesterday and thought I saw the guy from Chevy Chase wines working there. Is this who you are referring to?
  6. [ CW drives me absolutely bonkers. JPW, Just curious what it is about CW that drives you bonkers? I have heard other say similiar things in regards to this store
  7. Joe, Any particulars of the 10 bottles ($12-$18) that you bought from CW
  8. So I am soliciting various opinions on what people think is the best wine store for overall selection and value. I have been pretty faithful to Calvert Woodley over the past couple of years, but have found Macgruders on Conn Ave to have some good wines at very good prices on a consistent basis(i.e. allegrini palazzo del torre $14.99)
  9. Calvert Woodley has a nice selection of Kacher wines, and occasionally has a sale just focused on his wines.
  10. My girlfriend and I enjoyed a great dinner at Blacksalt's bar area last night. We ended up splitting a few small plates and apps. I found the fried Ipswich clams, Mussels (addies style) and the white anchovy small plate to be fantastic. Other good dishes we sampled were the Shitake mushrooms, and scallops in a crawfish butter sauce. Dessert was a trio of Creme Brulee...Pistachio, Citrus and Cinnamon Chocolate with a house made biscotti. Pistachio was by far the best! Coffee was a ygercheffe(sp?) press pot, very nice. The wine by the glass list is quite good. We ended up each having a glass of Argyle Pinot Noir and Steele Chardonnay. The space decorated quite simply, but it is very nice. My girlfriend deemed the barstools the most comfortable that she has ever sat in. One drawback was that the bartender seemed very swamped, she took a while to have our wine glasses refilled. Overall, a wonderful dining experience and a welcome addition to the D.C. restaurant scene.
