About Me
I'm originally from Hamilton, Ontario and live now in the Denver, Colorado area with my husband and three cats - Gonzo, Marijke and Beeker.
My foodie habits:
- I love going to supermarkets in other countries. Acceptable substitute - looking (and lusting) at products on websites of international supermarkets.
- Because of above point, I usually end up with stuffed suitcases of food and beverages from those countries. Unless I'm visiting my parents back in Canada. Then I just travel with almost empty suitcases so I can bring back boxes of Shreddies and Coffee Crisp chocolate bars.
- I am willing to try any food. I may not like it, but I am willing to try it. More often than not, however, I like it.
- I prefer supporting smaller artisan food producers. They need my money more than the larger corporations do.
- The first section I pull out of the newspaper - the food section.
- Best sit down meal (so far) - a rijstafel in an Indonesian restaurant in the Netherlands. Introduced my taste buds to real flavor, and I've been craving it ever since.
- Best street food (so far) - frites met saus in the Netherlands. Or french fries with Dutch mayo. Still can't find anyone else that can fry up tasty, crispy fries like they have in Holland.
- I subscribe to too many food magazines. By time I'm done reading all of them, the next month's issues are in my mailbox.
- If given a choice between buying prewashed, peeled, cutup carrots, and the old fashioned peel-and-wash-em-yourself carrots, I will always take the latter. I like to have a relationship with my food and therefore, will do my own cutting, chopping and peeling. It's a lot more satisfying.
