  1. Glad you got the list in time, bouquetduvin! A question of my own, now. Browsing through New York's on-line listings, I ran into this bit of info on Masa (I assume from when their review was written, in April): Does anyone know if this still holds true?
  2. Justin, just wanted to let you know how much I'm enjoying this thread-- and how much I'm learning. Thanks to you and to everyone who is contributing with knowledgeable comments and questions. Also, for what it's worth, I like the rating system-- of course it's subjective, but aren't they all?

    Jewel Bako

Jewel Bako is only open for dinner. ← Ah-- that would be a no, then. Thanks, bpearis.

    Jewel Bako

Can one get a full Jewel Bako experience sitting at the sushi bar for lunch? I prefer to eat large meals in the middle of the day, but don't want to limit my experience-- what would those of you who have been recommend?
  5. The wine list at Masa is here. After reading this thread over and over, along with the NYX reviews, etc, I think I've decided to go. It'll have to be the last place I go when I'm in NYC in March or everything else I eat (based on the reviews) will taste like dirt-- but I'm going. And I actually got butterflies just typing that.
  6. Quoting myself to say I found the list I mentioned-- it's in the 1/3/05 issue of New York. According to them, all of these places off some sort of bed-type situation: Duvet B.E.D. New York Ono Highline Hue
  7. Thanks to everyone for your thoughtful, informed replies-- I appreciate your thoughts. And you've convinced me to give Kurumazushi a shot-- this is shaping up to be a costly, incredibly delicious trip. I'll be posting a full report when I finally get to New York!
  8. Boy does this thread have me wanting to try Kurumazushi. Here's a question, though: when I look it up at citysearch, the reviews are mostly bad, sometimes almost brutally so-- both about food and service. Since all of you who have been there had very positive experiences, do you have any thoughts on why those people had such different experiences?

    Sushi Yasuda

Thanks for the link Dana, I'll add Kurumazushi to my list!
  10. Not to mention impractical. Were I hip enough to go to one of these places, I am quite sure that I'd leave with my front completely covered with food. Though perhaps that's more of a problem for me that the establishments themselves...

    Sushi Yasuda

I can't wait to have it (and don't worry, I'll report back fully)! But not til March-- I'm a teacher with an outrageously long spring break, so I get to spend about 10 days in New York when it comes. It's a long time to wait, but worth it once it gets here. In addition to Yasuda, I plan return visits to Honmura An, Restaurant Ichimura, and Sugiyama. In my less sane moments, I also give serious consideration to a dinner at Masa but I'm just not sure my pallet is sophisticated enough to appreciate the glory of the meal. I'd actually love other sushi suggestions but don't want to sidetrack this thread. Is in appropriate to start another, or best to just keep searching and browsing and posting restaurant-specific questions?

    Sushi Yasuda

I'm in the middle of planning the meals for my ritual March trip to NYC, and this thread has me ready to be at Yasuda now. I went last year for lunch but was cautious about price, opting for a cheap (very good) set selection of fish. This year, thanks to you guys, I promise that will be splurging on the omakase. (I don't know whether to curse or than you, but I can't wait to be there!)
  13. If I'm not mistaken, there are several bars and restaurants in NYC that offer this option-- I just read an article somewhere (Time Out?) listing them. It's always struck me as one of those Trendy Gimmicks that appeals briefly to the hipster set and then passes. Has anyone eaten at Duvet, or any of the other places? Are we just missing something?
