  1. Dare I suggest Mongolie Grill? It's not too expensive and certainly caters to all types of eaters. If you are able to make it to sunday brunch, make sure to check out Wildflower in the Pan Pacific- hands down the best brunch in Whistler (I know that's not saying much but seriously, it's GOOD). There's also the Crabshack -good food and fun too, a good young crowd -here's a link to their menu http://findwhistler.com/page.cfm/626 Auntie Em's in the upper village (beside IGA Marketplace) has great breakfast and sandwiches and what not- I've been there every hung-over day I've spent in Whistler. Here's a link with restaurant listings that might help: http://www.out-there.com/bc02rs.htm The problem with restaurants in Whistler is that pretty much every restaurant is expensive even if the food is cheap because the rent is so high.
  2. chambar: massive floor changes happening in this belgian fusion bistro. we hear the night manager josie has gone and andre from lumiere in is charge. Three cheers for Andre!!! He'll do good things for Chambar- that guy is fantastic. Too bad for Lumiere on the other hand....
  3. I live just up Burrard, steps from Incendio, and I have to agree with the majority- my experience there has been far from great. Mediocre food, mediocre service. As for the good stuff, I'm definitely a fan of Nat's..very tasty indeed...and I must also put in a vote for Earls...their thin crust pizzas are great, and also the best second day pizza I've had.
  4. As a former "Earls girl" I must say, they do strive for consistency in service, and it is always good when I have eaten there. I recall one time my boyfriend and I were there, the manager, out of nowhere, came over and told us that she was terribly sorry, and that Kris' chicken and ribs, combo would be taken care of because they had a problem with the forno oven and the food would be another five minutes. We were quite taken-aback as we had JUST finished our appetizers and were perfectly content. In hindsight, it was a much better approach than leaving us eventually looking around, wondering where our food was. The free dinner was probably unnecessary though, as appreciated as it was. My biggest pet peeve when dining out is being ignored. I am perfectly aware of it if someone is slammed and I have patience for that, but if they can't even quickly say "I'll be right with you" with an apologetic smile as they breeze past, I'm a little put off. The worst time I remember this happening was recently at Hy's in Whistler. I don't expect my server to know that this is the first time I have ever ordered a steak at a restaurant, having been a veggie for 13 or so years, but I do expect her to do a quality check regardless. The service was outstanding right up until the food came. My "medium well" steak (sorry guys) was bleeding all over the plate. I finished everything else on my plate and managed to eat half my boyfriends fries before she came by, and even then I had to flag her down. That sucked. It happened to be an anniversary night that I had been planning for quite some time and I don't get the opportunity to eat out at the finer (read: expensive) dining establishments of BC all that often, so it was quite a dissapointment. I know what it is like, having a full section and everyone wanting your attention, but seriously, there's nothing worse than desperately trying to make eye contact with someone and they clearly avoid you. That being said, a smile and a gracious attitude will make up for almost any screw up with me. The only thing that really affects the tip I leave is the servers attitude. If they are friendly and approachable, that's all I need. Mistakes happen and I totally accept that, but pretending they don't is probably the biggest mistake a server can make.
  5. I have to second (or third or fourth) the "good delis" idea- I pick up lunch every day when I'm working, and there ain't no time to sit and wait for my to-go order. I wish there were more good places with salads and paninis and what not. It's so hard to get a healthy meal on the go. As much as I love Hyrise, I'm getting very very bored. I also wish there were more casual restaurants a la the Cactus Club type(i.e. consistent food, most always an available table) but with some more INTERESTING food. I love to try new things but sometimes I'd much rather go to Cactus Club and get to eat within an hour than wait an hour to sit down at Bin. It's sad that it is my current favourite place but I've only been there six or seven times because I can't handle the hunger pangs. Oh, and *gulp* excuse my ignorance, but what is a gastro pub?
  6. I second the vote for Feenies- the fries are fantastic- I have consumed way more than my fair share. The condiments are for the burgers but they did at one point serve their spicy mayo and ketchup with fries...don't know if they still do but one can always request.... *on a side note, it is so nice to see a group of well spoken individuals that like eating/discussing food as much as I do* hi everyone, I'm new....
