  1. Heather and I have a longstanding disagreement on this, but I'm a fan of Niwano Hana. Momo Taro is also good.
  2. China Bistro rocks, Rochelle, but the dumplings are the only food worth ordering there. The rest of their menu (other than a few A&J like snacks) is Moo Goo Gai Pan crap for the Americans. I take my wife and kids, we just order 3 or 4 dozen dumplings (maybe a soup), and feast. All you really do is pick the filling and choose fried or steamed.
  3. Sam's makes fabulous gelato in-house - both traditional Italian flavors, and always a few with a Middle Eastern tinge. Their food, however, is just ok. It's in the Ritchie Plaza shopping center on the Pike. For kabobs, I much prefer Yekta Kabob. They're behind On the Border, also on the Pike, right next to Joe's Noodle (not Bob's). Their cornish game hen kabob is possibly the best kabob I've ever eaten. Attached to a nice little Persian market.
  4. I think he just started a week or two ago. I was planning on waiting a month or two to let him settle in.
  5. A whole fish (probably 2, if we're 12 people) is definitely a must. Partially because that's a traditional New Year dish, but mostly because they're freakin fabulous there. I've also had the "burger" and the egg & oyster pancake, and they're both good. Another "must" is the shaved ice dessert.
  6. We can get there, speak to Bob, and have him suggest things - we don't have to do a "take it or leave it" full meal. And I like the tongues.
  7. Just the opposite, in my opinion - Bob loves to tell you "oh, you can get that anywhere - try this instead." One note - though we'd normally all bring sufficient cash, you MUST do so at Bob's - they do not take plastic.
  8. I wonder if they updated the menu? Mine says pomfret... Busboy/Pomtormo - did we pre-arrange a menu, or are we ordering a la carte when we get there? The few times I've been, Bob himself has been very happy to help pick some items. With a 12-person table, should we just turn the reins over to him?
  9. What's the etiquette on using chopsticks from home, but not from your own home? I just got a beautiful set of chopsticks (10 pairs) from a family member who vacationed in Asia. I would love to bring them to the dinner and share them with all, but obviously I want to take all of them home with me. I know that bringing your own chopsticks is acceptable, but what about bringing for a group?
  10. Have you tried any of the peruvian resturants in Arlington? ← What about El Chalan at 1924 I Street NW downtown? Quite good Peruvian food.
  11. It is indeed a couple of doors down from Joe's. Fantastic little middle eastern market, with very reasonable prices on all sorts of things. The adjacent kabob place, whose sign says "Kabobi House", though I think there's another actual name for the place, is quite good. Their cornish game hen kabobs are the best I've had around - always meaty and juicy. Huge plates of food for very little money.
  12. I haven't actually eaten kabobs in the kabob place (that's Sam's Cafe, I believe), but they have fantastic Italian Gelato in the front of the store!
