I am a nutritionist in practice at a compounding pharmacy and health food store in Bedminster, NJ.

Growing up in an Italian multi-family environment in Bayside, Queens, we had three kitchens all of which were often in use. My mother yearned to cook "American", so our typical dinner fare was meat, starch and frozen vegetables while the traditional ethnic meals were being prepared upstairs by Nana.

Each dinner started with a bowl of "minestre", then a plate of pasta and main course. The most awesome bread from various locations in Queens and Brooklyn and of course, wine.

Luckily, my mother saw the light after a time and returned to her origins when it came to cooking, but it took me well into my adulthood to appreciate Nana's way.

I am recently re-married and a new empty nester as both my children are in college. So, my love of preparing and eating great food is finally coming into the forefront. My husband share's every aspect of this with me, including driving back and forth to Manhattan to make the rounds most every Saturday -Union Square Greenmarket, Chelsea Market, then uptown to Fairway with a few favored stops along the way.

Every Sunday, we cook BIG and invite a crowd of family and friends.

Life is good.
