  1. Its actually not that far from Columbia. The north side of the campus is on 120th and the nearest cross street to Dinosaur is probably 125th. Its a ten minute walk from the west side of campus. Granted it is closer to the area that grad students live in, especially International House. But its not that far. Remember these are not midtown blocks. Mary
  2. Its on 12th Avenue just north of the Cotton Club and south of Fairway. Basically its under Riverside Drive. Mary
  3. Sounds good, looking forward to the opening. Mary
  4. Thanks for the link to the pictures. When I looked at the site the other day they weren't up yet. When I drove by today it looked like they had put up the front door. But they are digging up the street in front, so its hard to get a good look. From everyone's description and the website, it seems like this will be similar to the Rodeo Bar, but with BBQ. Does that sound like a good description. Mary
  5. I live just around the corner from the new location so I've been watching developments. The sign is up in front and there are workmen there every time I go by. Haven't been able to get a good peek inside, but they are definitely working long hours to get things together. I'd love to join in on an egullet visit there. Hadn't heard of the place before but I'm hoping it will be a nice neighborhood hangout. We've been getting a few more places in the area in the last few years (Toast, Radio Perfecto, Pisticci, Blue Angel). But pickings north of Columbia are still a lot slimmer than south of it. Mary
  6. My problem with Parker is that he has propogated an increase in oaky white wines. I guess the winemakers feel that's what he likes, so that's how they'll get points. Its gotten so that I'm very reluctant to even try California whites anymore. Mary

    Cru

Haven't been, but would like to try it. I heard a lot of buzz about it a few weeks ago. So I figured the place would be packed. However, I hadn't taken into account the fact that NYC is deserted in August. Mary

    Artisanal

Well, I'm a bit late to this discussion but figured I'd report in anyway. Went to Artisanal for the first time on Sunday for brunch and had the opposite situation with regard to service. Everything came too fast. We hadn't even had a chance to take a sip of our drinks when the first course appeared. My friend had barely finished her's and I was only halfway through when the main course appeared. Felt rather rushed and it wasn't as if the place was busy. At most it was half full. Maybe they just didn't have anything to do. The food was good, but I would have appreciated a bit more time to linger over it.
  9. Definitelty agree with you about The Burger Joint. Great burgers, decent beer, and good prices.

    Gavroche

My visit was before they got their liquor license so we were able to bring our own for no fee. Haven't been since they got the license so I haven't seen the wine list. Mary

    Gavroche

I fully agree about the waitstaff. We asked for our red wine to be decanted and the waiter just looked at us. Finally after explaining what decanting meant, we were able to get through to him. We also sat in the back garden, which is very nice. We were originally supposed to have a table inside because all the back tables were reserved. But the owner (?) said to give us a small table in the back because the reservation for it was way past due. Food was good, but not spectacular. I'd go back there, but I don't want to have the same waiter. Mary
  12. According to the Brits and Australians there definitely is. We've had more arguments over this topic at beer hour than anything else. Mary
