  1. Great site. The first listing for Memphis is A&R BBQ and I think it may be my favorite shoulder in the city...but save room for the homemade fried pies! Worth a special trip any day.
  2. Try Bozo's BBQ and /or Gus's Fried Chicken in Mason , TN (not too far from Memphis). Gus's burned down but I understand it has been re-built. There is a second Gus's in downtown Memphis now. Harry's Detour in Memphis is just delightful. Very innovative dishes with a roots feel. Ther's on on Cooper and a second on G.E. Patterson @ S. Main. The Memphis BBQ list can get long but try to work in ribs at Cozy Corner and the sandwich at Payne's (on Lamar - dont forget the fried pie while you're there) . Also sandwich at A&R(on Elvis Presley Blvd). Hog Wild is a caterer only and doesn't have a restaurant but if you ever get hold of their Q, you'll be awfuly happy. Wild Bill's Blues Club on Vollintine has chittlin's if you really feel the urge, but I'm usually satisfied with excellent weekend music and 40 ounce beverages. Wiles Smythe Pharmacy in Midtown has an actual soda fountain. Have a safe trip(s).
  3. Hope I'm not too late for your fiance tour, fierydrunk, but dont forget The Barksdale at Cooper and Peabody for the real deal biscuits and all. And BBQ and breakfast go together here in that many BBQ joints serve a truly fine traditional breakfast - try Mike's BBQ on Monroe downtown or Bryant's BBQ on Summer for some fine biscuits. While I don't usually recommend chains, you'll get a breakfast exactly like grandma used to make (because I think she works ther) at Danver's on Union in Midtown.; its home-grown chain so we can easily make an exception here. Tom, you'll be happy to know that Bayou Bar & Grill is alive and well and busy as ever, especially with the late night crowd. It is on Overton Square, sharing a kitchen with La Chardonnay and Palm Court.
  4. For those old enough to remember the orginal Leonard's BBQ on Bellevue -- with the tiny pots of beans and your choice of white, dark or "mixed pig" -- you'll be happy to know that the founder's stepson has opened a place just below the state line in Southaven, MS. It's called Tommy Leonard's and is on Highway 51 about 50 yards south of Goodman Road.
