  1. In Queen's Quay Terminal, steps from where you are staying, is a restaurant on the second floor called Pearl Harbourfront. Ask for a window seat. The food style is very clean, rather nicely articulated for dim sum. Aside from Lai Wah Heen, it is the only good dim sum restaurant downtown, in my opinion. (More traditional, less avant garde than Lai Wah Heen.) If you're curious, there is a northern dim sum place on Dundas east of Spadina, called Wei Shiang Tsuen (Asian Legend). Quite different and rather yummy. Beef & green onion pancake rolls, pot stickers, glutinous rice packed around shredded pork and oil stick.
  2. Ooh, I choose Starfish over Rodney's any day. Far better value, and not such rowdy surroundings. Concienciously chosen wine list, w/ very reasonable mark ups and their non-seafood menu is very competent, in case your brother is accompanied by some who are not oyster lovers. I prefer sitting at the bar, as it's far more convivial. On a related side note,... Starfish used to have an absolutely mind blowing scallop app: fresh scallop on the half shell with a small slab of foie gras, seared under the broiler, then drizzled with clarified butter. I haven't seen it on the menu in a while, but it made my knees quiver.
  3. Thanks for the very fast replies! The woman at Coast was very nice. Unfortunately, they could only accomodate us for 2.5 hours. Lumiere is closed on Mondays. I'm giving my client the choices of: Tojo, Cioppino & Bacchus. Again, thank you!!!
  4. Hi everyone! I'm going to be in Vancouver next Monday, January 31st to take some very good clients out to dinner. I called West to make reservations and was told that since it's during Dine Out Vancouver (DOV), they don't have their regular menu. Instead they have the DOV prie fixe (not quite what I want to do), and have a very limited a la carte menu (only 4 apps, 4 mains to choose from), AND we'll be booted out after 2 hours, even though I don't want to participate in DOV. I need more time to chat and schmooze these ppl. Can anybody help me out with suggestions for a very chic, impressive restaurant that is not participating in DOV? Closeness to downtown is helpful but not a must. Thanks very kindly in advance!
