NJ2FL: I pm-ed "saffronnj" a couple months ago and learned that he has been in and out of the hospital with a medical ailment. I will let him know that people are concerned about his whereabouts and that you wish him well. Other than that, havent been in Jersey for a couple months to experience Saffron. Hear from friends its still delicious.

Hello Everyone! Long time no post. Been busy up in Boston. However, I got a chance to go back to NJ this past weekend and visit Saffron. The restaurant has been open over a year now, and the taste is getting better and better. Either that or i'm becoming addicted? I ate the Saturday Buffet and also got a lunch box to go (for dinner..hehe). Food was great as usual. One point of surprise--the manager remembered me as the student from Boston and asked how things were going. I cant believe after 4 months he still remembers me! He told me they've been doing very well, and that their catering is picking up as well. I asked them why they werent on Zagat yet, and he told me they were actually in the voting process right now. I checked it out and put in my vote. If you have some time, go ahead and vote as well. Curlz-Have you had the Malai Kofta there? It's one of my favorite dishes. Try it out and let me/us know what you think. I'll be there again on Black Friday. See ya.

I would think it is to get more people into the restaurant. Perhaps people that wouldn't normally eat indian food and would now give it a shot because of the great deal. I also feel like they might be trying to increase dinner and take-out volume. I know there are plenty of good/pricey/tasty/popular restaurants that put coupons in newspapers and entertainment books to get new people to try out their food. (sorry for the bad grammer...been studying too much.)

Hey Nizza i highly doubt they are "americanizing" the food. There was one dish I felt was mild and I guess I shouldn't have generalized to all the food. I've actually never had that dish there before and so perhaps the dish is meant to be mild? I am used to eating spicy food thanks to my indian roommates. But I feel there is a huge difference between "spicy" and "tasty". Saffron is definetly "tasty". Check it out and let me know what you think!

Hello everyone, long time no see... I am home this weekend so I decided to visit Saffron for lunch. Other than having to wait 15 minutes to get a table (it was packed!) everything went smooth. I noticed there were more people working there and a manager went around to each table and asked how we were doing. Water and Naan basket were always full. Food was milder than usual, but still very tasty.

eh? My indian friend tells me the following: British ruled over India for many years and changed the spelling of many Indian words to make it easier on themselves. India is now in the process of changing the spellings back to the originals. For example, Bombay is now called "Mumbai".

Sorry, Garlic Rose is in Madison. If you live in EH, you would know that all the towns are intermingled and that it can get confusing sometimes knowing where you are. Forgive me.

Hello Again. I see I have spurred some interesting discussion on Saffron. I am a resident of East Hanover, but I go to school in Boston. My friends/family and I dine frequently around the East Hanover area. As far as Indian restaurants go I've been to Palki (in EH), India Palace (Parsippany), and Moghul (Morristown) and I have found Saffron to offer the best food and service. We are also big fans of the chinese buffet at Royal Garden (EH). My favorite by far is a small place in Florham Park called Garlic Rose; now these guys definitely know how to cook Italian! Yes I do know bigdawg33, his family first recommended Saffron to me. After reading the forum, I thought he might have an opinion on the service. Murgh and Chicken are the same. My indian friend tells me there is a difference in usage due to the British. They changed "murgh" to "chicken" back in the day, and now indians are trying to change it back, slowly. There could also be a difference in the way the sauce/chicken is made. Make sense?

Interesting. I'm thinking that review was an isolated incident and shouldn't be used to judge this restaurant. I've been to Saffron 3 times now (2 Lunch, 1 Dinner) and I have yet to receive poor service. I will admit that it does get busy during lunch but that is because their lunch buffet has great food at a great price. The service when i've been there has been pretty good. I found the wait staff to be friendly and the manager an expert on service. I have yet to order online. I'll have to give the website a browse. This post is making me hungry.
