  1. 2 more out of town, food folk excited to join in the extracarricular (sp?) activities. have been reading from the sidelines and only recently joined in the discussion. Always enjoy being in the big city especially for the food, count 2 more into the fray.

    Tofino

The pointe restaurant at the wickinnish by far has the best wine list in the area, while the Cafe pamplona has a small BC focused list. Given that it is not in town, and not always open to the public we tend to not discuss it but Tim May (with Pauls help) could be creating the finest food on the coast behind Meares Island at Clayoquot Wilderness Resort.

    Tofino

Fearing being overly repetitious I would have to list cafe Pamplona, raincoast and shelter as the three best dining options, depending on what someone is looking for. Cafe intimate with the best BC wine list and limited options, Raincoast with lots of options in the food department, leaning heavily on Veg and seafood, and Shelter somewhere in the middle with a lively spacious room, slightly funkier, younger crowd. It is quite remarkable that we get to live in a town of 1800 local residents and have the dining options we have. Have also heard nothing but positive feedback for Andrew at the Pointe restaurant, so much so that we are planning on dining there for the first time since rodney left. The feedback is especially strong from his servers who have in years of late been serving so so expensive food, they are very excited to serve "worthy food" for the room and the hotel.

    Tofino

The brewpub and restaurant in the cedar corner building is for lease, so if anyone wants to have a restaurant in tofino there is one up for grabs. Also want everyone to know that sobo will be closed between july 5 and 13. We will reopen on the 14th of July. Sorry for any inconvenience.

IT IS OFFICIAL THAT LONG BEACH LODGE HAS LOST YET ANOTHER CHEF, DEPARTING SOMETIME IN MAY. THIS AFTER A FIGHT WITH A LINE COOK IN THE GREAT ROOM. TRILOGY FISH A VERY CAPABLE SMOKEHOUSE IN TOFINO IS ALSO SERVING CRAB AND SHRIMP SANDWICHES THIS SEASON, GMAKES A GREAT PICNIC FOR THE BEACH ALONG WITH A LITTLE OF THEIR CANDIED SALMON AND HOT SMOKED LOCAL ALBACORE.

    Tofino

My lady ate at Shelter under the newest chef ( #3 since opening) Jesse Blake and found the food the best since it opened not quite a year ago. Jesse has been in Tofino for some time now with years at Schooner and worked with Lisa Ahier at Long Beach Lodge but left when she left. Also sounds like the food at Long Beach Lodge keeps getting worse, also on chef # 3 in 2 years. New chef at the Pointe Restaurant andrew Sprigett ( sp?) is getting very favorable chatter. A poorly written piece out recently in Eat Magazine as well as april issue of sunset has info on dining in Tofino.

    Geoduck Clam

They are much easier to clean than I thought and after talking to a few locals as well as Geoduck divers I have found a few simple was of preparing. The skin comes off the neck very easily by running hot water on it and then you run water from a hose through it to get rid of the sand inside. They are so large a little intimidating to start. Not aware of any other names but they are the largest clams in the world and have been recorded to be up to 146 years of age. Given that time on the planet I wanted to be sure to prepare them properly. I sent the first post in my wifes name as I had not joined e gullet yet. Jeager
