  1. What if you brought a couple of t-bones in and asked the chef, for a fee, to cook them for you... Where does it end? I just think it's a waste to pay someone for the privilige of opening your bottle. Didn't mean to offend...
  2. Joe there is a huge difference between eating and dining. Eating when you are on the road is one thing. You have to eat... I ate at an Outback several months back and it was one of the top five owrst meals I have ever endured. Period. I tried a Carrabas the month after that and it forever cured me of dining at chains. I will go to a grocery store salad bar before I eat at one of those places again. The last experience was painful. Friends were taking us out so I was stuck. 2 hours for a table. Waiter (more like waitron) could have cared less we endured the wait. Do you like the schtick where they sit down or squat down to pretend they really care? They will receive nothing more from me... And probably could care less about it.
  3. I do agree with you about indi Italian and its unfortunate. The point I was trying to make is shunning corporate greed and throwing the little guy a bone... (pardon the pun) Thats all.
  4. one things gripes me about bringing wine into restaurants... restaurants, especially in our current economic up and downs, are in the business of selling food and drink. why do people get so uppity when they are told they cannot bring their own bottle? Why would you want to pay someone 20 bucks to "open and pour"? That to me seems more ridiculous and a bigger waste of money. There are restaurants everywhere with affordable wine lists. Seek them out and frequent them. Reward them for not gouging the dining public. Off my soap box now. You may resume your regular programming.
  5. why oh why do we Americans thrive on horrible, souless cooking? And to add insult to injury we STAND IN LINE FOR TWO HOURS TO GET IT?? Please folks, support independants. Not mindless, corporate, lousy, indifferent, unimaginative goop. Whether it be Ruth's Chris/Outback/Olive Garden/TGIfridays or whatever. Support your local restaurant, otherwise all that's left will be 2 hour waits for mediocre to piss poor food and indifferent to surly service.
  6. Give any idiot with a basic college education a test and they can become a "sanitarian" They have little concept of the real world. My favorite ding is using "used" plastic (like the ones sour cream come in). Legally they must be thrown away or recycled. Huh. If they are sanitized whats the difference? I am not, however condoning filth, but to write restaurants up for minutia makes one wonder if our tax dollars are being wasted by idiots. Wait a minute, government...idiots... Nevermind.
  7. I had heard mixed reviews on the Public House also, so we went to check it out. Wow. What a deal. Got a nice seat out on the deck/patio area beautiful gardens lovely sunset, great affordable wine list and the food was dynamite. Fun spot. sextons are right do not go to the Blue Rock. It was the single most unsavory experience we had ever endured. Four and Twenty is a cute spot but the menu lacks value and the wine list is laughable. 24 bucks for Yellow Tail... it's 6 bucks at Giant. And the place across the street, the Griffin Tavern is like bad tgiFridays. Those are my Rappahannock experiences/opinions. Had a good meal at Ashby Inn but the service was abysmal, like they couldn't care less we were there.
  8. perhaps you are right... it sounds like it would be a grind. still the "evil" customer thing bothers me. why can't people behave civily?
  9. Yes, in fact Mark her cheese was better than 70% of the chevre I bought during the 12 years I lived in Provence. It was truly amazing. She also made a Tomme style, fresh cheese, a goat milk cheddar and a lavender scented semi-dry cheese that would bring me to my knees. If you didn't get a chance to try some, you really missed out. One that come close is Pipe Dreams out of PA.
  10. Steve perhaps I misstated... ONE of the reasons she stopped was "city folk" but not the entire reason. But it is a major reason she stoipped doing it. People not understanding that cheese is in fact not a resource that can be picked or cultivated but on that is made and made in very small batches. I guess some people cannot accept the fact that they missed out and were nasty with here about it. The same type of people that show up during times she wasn't open and were nasty to her. I for one cannot blame her. I will just miss her cheese, it was amazing.
  11. if Ann Amernick sold her doughnuts from her house and had a sign that said when she was opened and it was ignored, she would have every right in the world to complain. The problem is people. Whatever happened to people accepting things for how they are. If the farm closes at five does it give people the right to interrupt dinner with her family at 7 just because they didn't have the brains to call ahead for hours of operation... So I'd say it was VERY different than Ann Amernick.
  12. I hear you. We get out that way as much as we can and are floored by the general attitude of people that visit the area. Wow. It's like they are owed something, it's like they are saying "look at the simple country folk Muffy". It make me sick how self important people are sometines.
  13. Heidi Eastham has pulled the plug on her award winning goat cheeses. Sadly she wants to pursue other farming options and was tired of dealing with over zealous city folk showing up at all hours of the day and night clammering for her cheeses. It's a shame the few ruined it for the many... What a shame, it really was great cheese.
  14. do you mean you can't imagine the kitchen making a mistake? or you can't imagine getting something you didn't order because you aren't aware of the standards at Ruth's Chris. Ruth's Chris is a soul-less chain. Support independants!
  15. His sig/other runs e-cow (Epicurious Cow) out there as well. Cute little food shop onHwy211. FYI
  16. The authority on organic farms in the area is John O'Malley Burns at Goat Hill Organics. He also certifies organic farms and knows all the players in the area.
