  1. I've been meaning to write as well but was caught up with work this week. My husband and I finally went back for dinner on Friday evening ( a pre b-day dinner). We went in around 6:30 on Friday and it was packed. They said the wait would be 40 minutes and it ended up being only 20. As it is a small place there isn't a clear idea of where one needs to put your name down and where you should wait as the bar area is very small. There isn't a hostess table so people often look a little lost trying to get their name in. That said, we had a wonderful dinner. We ordered a bottle of wine and antipasta to start off with. You can order the antipasta for two or four. It was lovely and the perfect portion! I ordered the Cajun Shrimp with roasted corn polenta.....excellent!! The shrimp has just enough spice to give it a kick and the roasted corn polenta was superb! My husband had the hanger-steak with chimichurri, mash potatoes and fried onions. He loved it, although he said that they could have been more generous with the chimichurri!! We are already planning our next visit!!
  2. Java Green will donate 15% of all sales on Thursday, January 6th and Friday, January 7th to organizations supporting the Tsunami relief efforts. In addition, the staff are contributing their tips all week. Java Green is located right around the corner at 1020 19th Street (between L and K).
  3. Has anyone gone to their brunch??? I have been curious about it but haven't made time to go.
  4. Glad to hear you check it out. This weekend was especially nice for it. I tend to stay away from the cakes they tend to be dry but next time you need to try the TRIFLE for dessert!!! Actually, I may have to go this evening for a nice hearty stew!
  5. It's Mrs. P's B-Day today so more to celebrate with a few drinks!!
  6. As for the Anchor Inn, as far as I know it is closed. I have been out of town for a couple of weeks but from what I recall it's been closed for several months but in general I have never put much attention to it. Yes, a five minute walk from the Metro! Up the street and around the corner.
  7. I was at the Royal Mile Pub in Wheaton last night for dinner as we were without electicity and realized that I had never seen any traffic on forum about this little local gem with the exception of a mention under other topics. We tend to frequent the Royal Mile during the week and on occasion over the weekend where there is often entertainment. My better half and I have been very please with the atmosphere and the food. It's a very neighborhood feel and only has about some 20 odd tables and a small bar. There is the usual and somewhat unusal pub fare. The fish and chips are very good and the Maryland fried chicken is great comfort food, although I had never heard of "Maryland" fried chicken before our visits to the pub. My better half tends to go with the evening specials which are several notches up from and more sophsicated than the pub fare. In general they have tended to be excellent. We have only missed on a few occasions and on those occasions waiters have taken dislikes to the chef. The chef is often on the floor stopping by tables and inquiring with customers as to the food, likes and dislikes and suggestions. He has been working on adding new items to the menu and has become very creative without loosing the pub feel. I also must mention that although I have tried several desserts at the Royal Mile, my favorite still tends to be the Trifle!! They also provide a calendar of events that not only includes entertainment but also malt and wine tastings plus themed dinner specials duirng the month. I'm not sure if others feel the same way but I felt the Royal Mile needed a bit of space on the forum. I also suggested to the chef that he become engage on the forum.
  8. Yucca ( 18th and M) is also a good option. We had a pretty big happy hour there last spring and they accomodated out needs in terms of budget, specials and food. There are several open spaces and a private room.
  9. Thanks JPW. Address: Black Market and Bistro 4600 Waverly Avenue Garrett Park, MD 20896 Tel: 301-933-3000 It's between Connecticut and Rockville Rike off of Knowles.
  10. My husband and I were out looking for yard sales on Saturday and decided to explore Garret Park a bit. We ended up visiting their small but very nice farmer's market. The farmer's market sits right outside Penn Place on Waverly Avenue, a very quaint Victorian building at the center of activity and right next to the park and the MARC train. It houses the post office and several community activities. After exploring the market, we ventured into the newly renovated Penn Place and to our surprise, we encountered Black's Market and Bistro. The atmosphere was great and the aroma from the kitchen wonderful. We were sold! My husband and I decided to venture in for some coffee and a muffin and ended up having brunch. It was a great breakfast and a nice neighborhood atmosphere. I had the French toast with orange zest and vanilla and my husband had the breakfast sandwich on brioche with eggs and smoked bacon. Yum! The restaurant was inaugurated last month with the reopening of Penn Place. Black Market's owners are the same couple who own Addie's and Black's Bar & Kitchen. We checked out the dinner menu (it looks great) and it’s comparable to that of Addie’s. The market itself isn’t a much, a couple shelf of gourmet products. They don’t have a liquor license but you can bring your own bottle. We are already planning out next visit for dinner! Anyone else been?
  11. Heading to Madrid November 23-28 and my husband and I are looking for tips on good places to stay (at a good prices), where and what to eat and any other insider tips off the beaten tourist route. We are also up for some day trip fom Madrid. Suggestions?
  12. Yes, we agree that Jackie's is a hit! My husband and I joined Mrs. P last night and had a great time. The ambiance was great and the mood wonderful, especially for a Wednesday night. I concur with Mrs. P's remarks on the food...although I would recommend that they just don't do the Nachos or revisit it completely. Our waitor and the owner were very good about asking our likes and dislikes so I assume they will be updating the menu and trying out new items over the next several months! I hope the Pisco Sours ( al estilo Chileno) make it on the drink menu!!! Although, we did enjoy the Raspberry Martini!! Jackie's is a nice change from the many chain restaurants that have popped up in Silver Sprung. It had personality and a great neighborhood feel. I have high hopes.
  13. I had a friend in town last night who formerly live in DC and was dying for Cafe Asia. I use to go to the one on 19th Street until they mysteriously closed so of course I did a search thinking Rossyln was going to be the option but to my suprise I hadn't realized that they re-opened on 17th and I last fall. It's pretty sad considering I don't work that far away! So we went and had a great time. I have to say the urban white decor was a bit over the top considering it's location in DC but the sushi proved to be good. Cafe Asia definitely focuses on the young urbanite clientele ( but I'm young and an urbanite so I guess I qualify!) We arrived before the Happy Hour was over so we took advantage of good but cheap sushi and the quality and quantity of the sushi was as I remembered it. We didn't venture off the sushi menu as that was the purpose of the visit so I will pay another visit and check out the other items. Service was a bit slow at the beginning ( it took 15 minutes before the waiter came to us) but we were waiting on friends so there wasn't a rush....only maybe to get a glass of wine. It eventually picked up so all in all we were happy with our experience. And, my friend from Colorado was thoroughly delighted with her Sushi! No that I know that it is there and will definitely be back, especially for the Happy Hour.....hopefully I won't be blinded by the all white decor!!
  14. I agree Sunday dinner is a good thing. When I was younger, I spent it at my grandmothers ( although her cooking wasn't the memorable part). For my husband, who is from Chile, Sunday is family day ( plus a little soccer). I really enjoyed Sundays in Chile. The main focus there is the big afternoon lunch and then tea later in the afternoon. We sometimes make a combination of the two, having a big lunch and then light Tea with cakes and bread with friends. Other times we have an early Sunday dinner either by ourselves or with friends. I have contemplated instituting a regular Sunday dinner with friends in the area. A couple of Sundays a month at the same time and those who can come come and those who can't make it for another time!! I actually think I am going to go ahead and schedule the first one. Thanks for the inspiration in the topic!! I'm motivated!!
  15. Thanks for the recommendation. Also, I'm not necessarily looking for anything for Easter dinner but places for Friday and Saturday.
