    Howdy folks!

Hmmm, along 41a I hung out at the Red Carpet, JoAnn's, and the Red Lion. There used to be one (Jason's) up across the KY line, but he sold out to adult entertainment folks. I liked the Lion the best, because it was built beside a chinese food place and you could order from the bar. Best teriyaki steak in town! We also used to go tho the Library lounge and hit on college girls, but that usually wound up with us having to hit college guys instead. I don't remember the pizza place. We used to get Dominoes for free all the time because they never could get to the barracks on time. I plan on heading up that way some time this year, just to look around and maybe go grab a schnitzel (and a couple of shotguns) at the Rod & Gun club. Laters, Rust

    Guinness on tap

In Memphis, I guess the best place to get a good pint of Guinness would be here, as quoted in the Peabody Place website: "There's Dan McGuinness Irish Pub, built from the ground up in Ireland and shipped to Memphis to recreate the décor, music, food, drinks and hospitality of an authentic Dublin pub." Their Shepherd's Pie simply rocks, BTW. Others would be the Flying Saucer (downtown) and the Blue Monkey (Overton Square). I'd bet the Young Avenue Deli (square) has it, but I haven't been there yet. Howdy folks!

What? They killed Kenny? Those bastids! Hiya Lew! Looks like writing about beer IS the way to the good life. You know Rick, he's from California. Only us southern boys have real manners. Comes from all that learnin' we get. Rust

Hiya Rick! Slow and steady does the trick. It may have been over two days, actually, I think I finished it after midnight. Rust

    Brew Pubs

In El Paso, definitely Jaxon's (the one on Airway). They have a great range of styles and they've placed in the GABF from time to time. Knowing how far El Paso is from you, you may want to try Memphis. If you ever get to the Bluff City, we have a Hops and Gordon Biersch in town, however the place to go is Bosco's. It's in the Midtown reigon, and is hands down the best of our three brewpubs. They've taken the gold at GABF two years in a row in the exerimental category (Juniper Stone and Ninkasi), and is the home of Bosco's Flaming Stone beer. I almost got to try the Ninkasi, but the web site and the pub weren't quite in sync, I missed out. They just opened one up in Little Rock, too. Might be a bit closer. One thing about the Flaming Stone: Each Bosco's (Memphis, Nashville, and Little Rock) do theirs a little different. Check out their website: www.boscosbeer.com for details. Is Pecan Street still in business? I liked their True Bock. Rust

    Howdy folks!

Hi everybody!. For those who don't know me (or haven't seen me in a few years), my name is Rusty and I'm a beer guy. I used to hang out in Prodigy Classic way, way back in the day. I left at the "urging" of my (now ex) wife, but as you can see, my priorities are set straight again. I've retired from the Army now, and no longer live in El Paso. Memphis is now my home. Lew used to refer to "beer hell Texas"....guess what, Tennessee's not a whole lot better. Lucky I have a few other states close by. Looking forward to talking with you all. Rusty, in El Paso, now simply known as Rust.

    The Ultimate Beer!?

Well, back when I took a tour of the Jack Daniels distillery (around 1985), we were shown one room where the tour guide told us "This would be Jack Daniels beer". Except for the hops. As for actually distilling beer, I've not heard of it. I know Dogfish Head does some distilling, and so does a West Coast brewer (Anchor?). Would be interesting to try, yes? Rust
