  1. Thanks for the replies. I like the look of cinque terre and my girlfriend does enjoy Italian food so I might have to consider that. However, it looks like I am leaning heavily towards Hugo's at this point. ANy idea on how far in advance I have to book at a Portland rest. to get a prime seat for two?
  2. In mid-october I am traveling to Portland Maine and would like to squeeze in one wonderful meal while I am there. From this thread the top choices seem to be: 1. Hugo's 2. Street and Co. 3. 555 4. Fore Street. Price is not really an object, though I would prefer to keep it under 250 for two people with wine and service if possible, however this is by no means a requirement. My wonderful girlfriend will be with me so this is a romantic evening, and would like some input as to which one of the above-noted restaurants best fills that quality. Just looking for a wonderful place to compliment a weekend getaway for a young couple looking for a romantic evening out.
  3. I dined at Sette last week with some friends after work. The people who organized the event had been to Sette several times, but it was my first experience. In short, the food was solid, the service (at the table) was OK, the hostess(s) were horrible. There were more then a few people who left without being seated because of the hostess. If the overall service level can improve, the food will bring me back.
  4. The old kimche can be used to make kimchi jjigae. Its kimchi stew, and its made as the person in the thread stated.
  5. Kimchi bokum means "stir fried kimchi" or more to the point what you are looking for is a deji kimchi bokum (sp) which means pork fried kimchi. Sorry for the improper spelling, but its impossible for me to spell korean words using western characters. As for the dish, when i make it it usualy involves marinated pork cut into strips along with kimchi, seasame seed oil and soy sauce. pretty easy, dunno how you had it.
  6. I think its just a ploy by knife makers to get yuppie buyers to buy sets of useless knives. Give me a good chef's knife, a serrated bread knife and a pairing knife and I would be a very happy man. Add in a boning knife for special occasions and viola I should be set for most of the cutting challenges that would face me in the kitchen.
  7. The greek oil is good, however stay away form the trader joe's brand which is mediocre at best. The Santinori (sp) brand at TJ's is very good for the price as well.
