  1. Had an awesome lobster roll for lunch last Saturday (july 23rd).

Kennedy's Bar & Grill in Marlboro, MA.

Tragically, today I went to Kennedy's (6/10/06) and they don't yet have a lobster roll on the menu. The bartender indicated that he was getting calls daily about the availability of their lobster rolls and that as soon as they started serving them, it would be constant through Labor Day, but nothing yet. I am in the area through next Thursday morning, and I will call at least on Tuesday to see if they're serving yet. (He did say any day now) and will update.

I'm not local (from Charlotte) but I adore lobster and good lobster rolls. I'm in town for the week on a company expense account and hope to try a large variety of lobster rolls in the suburban Boston area (Westboro, Hopkinton, Natick and anywhere 15-30 minutes of here) while I'm here. Will report in.

A surprising find: Kelly's Roast Beef & Seafood in Natick (right at Jordan's furniture and the Imax theater off 9) had an excellent lobster roll for $16.95. It was cold, not heated, no lettuce, -VERY- little celery and mayo, and just a SLEW of lobster on a delicious, buttery roll. It was fantastic.

On my list to try are still the 1790 restaurant off 9, Skipjacks, and of course Legal Seafoods. If anyone has any other recommendations, please let me know! I plan on trying to get at least one lobster roll a day in while I'm here and reporting back. Taking one for the team, don't ya know?

  2. This is fantastic! I was driving by the new Wegmans in Loudoun just this past Saturday. As we stopped at the light I said, "Hey hon, there's a new store there... what is that... W-E-G... It says Wegmans."

"What on earth is Wegman's?", Mr. J asked.

"Beats me," and we drove on.

I'm so glad to hear it's a great new store to check out!

Michelle (or anyone) does Wegman's carry a good selection of Greek food? We quite literally just discovered Aphrodite in Bailey's Crossroads on Saturday. Apparently this past weekend was a good one for food discoveries for us!

  3. My uncle took me to this place about ten or fifteen years ago when I was a kid. It was in the middle of nowhere but was within driving distance of Myrtle Beach.

I loved the food there. Standard fried/broiled/grilled seafood. The hush puppies were amazing. This was the first place that I tried homemade (not from a food service supplier) Thousand Island dressing. It was fantastic.

I have tried locating the restaurant on my own, but can't. And can't ask my uncle anymore.

Anyone ever heard of it? I think this was the right name.

    Thanks!

  4. mrs-j:  don't worry this just the hazing ritual.

    You're lucky!

They made me work a 20 hour shift doing fries at a McDonald's in sourtheast.  Then I was forced to eat 12 smokey dogs (you know, the warty ones)  from 7-11 in less than 4 minutes.  Crazy!

    I barely made it!

Wow Meaghan - that's rough! I don't know anyone who has worked that shift (and eaten those dogs) who has lived to tell about it before!

I was thinking on the way into the office that I'd like to go on record as saying I love pressure cooked fried chicken and I have never experienced the sheer joy of home-cooked fried chicken in a cast iron skillet. My mother was a lousy cook and our chicken always came soggy and out of a bucket.  And I've been real sensitive about that all my life. *sniff*

  5. Wait a minute!  This is not that big of a deal unless you are Hispanic and grew up with this chain that ripped off American chains.  I'm being serious.  The chicken is excellent but it's NOT as good as Popeye's spicy WHEN Popeye's is served hot from the oil AND THE OIL WAS CHANGED THE NIGHT BEFORE.  Nor is at any better than Bojangle's under the same circumstances.  I've linked  reviews of it which show that not everyone who goes automatically falls in love with it.  ... Incredible that so many of you will jump on a bandwagon!

That's all well and good but I would like the opportunity to try this restaurant and judge for myself, if that's all right with you.

And I don't think it was necessary for you to single me out for the enthusiasm of my post. I've never had Popeye's or Bojangles right after THE OIL WAS CHANGED THE NIGHT BEFORE as far as I know. My local Popeye's doesn't post their oil changing schedule.

Still, I see no reason to get upset simply because I want to try authentic Guatemalan fried chicken. I like to try things I have never tried before. It's entirely possible that regardless of what your opinion is, I might find it incredible. I think I ought to have the chance to give it a try first before being called "young" and singled out for simply being enthusiastic about the place.

  6. Thank you so much for sharing your fried Twinkie experience! I am so sick of people dissing (for lack of a more proper term) silly fried foods untested. At work, if you bring up a fried Snicker's, fried Oreo, fried Twinkie, or any other fried sweet concoction someone, undoubtedly trying to be PC, sneers and said, "Ugh! Blech! Why would I want to FRY anything and eat it?"

Crazy person. One fries because the technology is there and many foods that taste delicious standalone taste even better fried!

Thanks for an honest dissertation on the frying of Twinkies. Finally! An answer from someone who knows! :)

  7. Hi everyone!

I discovered eGullet while looking up information on Zaytinya. My husband and I will be going there on our anniversary!

From there I found the D.C. & DelMarVa forum. What a great find! I know so many of the restaurants being discussed here!

2941 is a new one - I went to a pre-opening party that one of the owners held, but it's a little far for me to get back there except for a special occasion. I'm glad to hear it's doing well.

Connaught Place - old favorite. Best service and Indian food I've found to date.

    So many others!

Hope you don't mind my jumping in and saying hello!
