As a Westside resident I must offer these suggestions...
All bread and pastries are half price in the evening at Star Provisions and free to dinners. Best gingerbread cookies ever - forget those Moravians.
If you sit at the bar at Bacchanalia you don't need a reservation and you can order a la carte while watching Clifford cook. A real $ saver.
Via Elisa has THE best pasta on this side of the pond.
Tacqueria del sol is a surly dinning experience offered up by a bunch of pissed off dudes.
Commune has a can't-be-beat patio over looking trains every 20 minutes, creeping kudzu, and a midtown skyline under a lovely urban industrial backdrop. This is the perfect weather to enjoy their cocktails, diverse crowd and great setting.
The new pasta place is OK but doesn't hold a candle to Elisa's artisan pasta.
Want fresh seafood at half the price of Star Provisions order it from Inland Seafood? It's right around the corner from Pangaea.
Haven't tried Ambria yet.
Finally, ARIA in buckhead is the only reason one would want to venture that neck of the woods after dark. Always a fabulous experience.

In regards to jumping on the bashing bandwagon...I started watching the restaurant because I created one myself in my younger years and thought it would be interesting summer viewing. After a couple of episodes of never sitting down through the whole show and cringing with amazing about how awful the whole thing was, I went looking on the internet for like-minded individuals. I was astonished how long it took me to get around all the raves until I finally found my people at egullet. It was a breath of fresh air to not have to reread the pathetic spins but the cynics calling it like they saw it. The odd circus it was with little regard for the food. I too am going to miss this thread way more that the show. Thanks for the entertainment, ah not irritainment...Jenna

Now that you mention the bus switch, by god your right. Only the cute and effusive speech givers (suck ups) were allowed on the jitney. The other bus took a detour to AC.

This one was the worst yet. All about sex and food - that's orginial. After all the footage they took that's all they could come up with for the final "redemption" show. It didn't work and it made me uncomfortable watching it. Even more than the others.
Wonder how much Amex money they will throw at this sinking ship to keep it afloat another year inorder to prove he'll be part of the 10 percent who make it?
Why did they waste so much time with those not-so-polite table of women?
Oh, and the close up of the slupping noodles after the over dub of the Roc talking about how sexy food is....Gag.
Is the Roc's branding solid enough for round 2?

We too are around that age and we found lots of cute retaurants downtown. It is worth just walking some more and explore for yourselves. I can't remember the names of the places we ate last year but they were crowded. That I do remember. So make your exploration early. They do have a visitors center. Lots of veggie options and kids with drums.

It is a 30+ year family tradition that we head down to the Farmers Market and get our Christmas tree, poinsettia and garland. We can't leave until we stock up on newly harvested Florida oranges, Georgia shelled pecans, a coconut and of course some boiled peanuts. It must also be freezing cold so you haggle with the North Carolina tree farmers around their fire barrels. Great fun. Now I go with my husband and our new little growing family.

You could always find a nice location and bring in the caterer, tables, chairs, etc. That's what I did when I planned my wedding here from out of town 8 years ago. I picked the Academy of Medicine for the venue and then gave a caterer my recipes. Rhodes Hall is beautiful too. If you need more info- I can help. Jenna Schuh
