In the USA, when a "set-day" holiday falls on a weekend, the previous Friday or the following Monday is observed as a holiday?  11 Nov. is a holiday (Armistice Day) in Paris.  Will the 12th be a holiday/deserted?

Thanks,

Jake

Sorry loufood, I would have to disagree. When holidays in France fall on a Tuesday or Thursday, many, many French people take the extra day. They call it a "bridge". Last May, there were three such holidays and people were very excited about taking 3, 4-day weekends. For the tourist, you won't see much of a difference. It won't affect musuems, most shops, and most restaurants. But try doing business....

Just a different "avis"

David you make a good distinction about office workers and the non effect of their absence from work on daily life. Butchers' closing will affect the daily life of the resident perhaps, but not the tourist's. When the patisseries and worse yet, cafes and restaurants close, that's a problem.

That's totally cool David! Our experiences are just different. Maybe my perspective is skewed because I'm dealing with mostly school, restaurant and media people - who are just not normal people anywhere.

I remember the jokes in France last May, because with the 4 and 5 day weekends, they wound up with only 14 working days!! (We should be so lucky in the US) Another issue is the Noon-2PM closing-- not so much in Paris, but in the countryside you need to be aware of this; I have gotten thrown out of museums and messed up my entire schedule because of this-- but I wish we did that here!! The French are dead serious about their leisure time!
