Pickles should not be hot, so we are close to some kind of agreement (he says while donning his rubber gloves and biohazard suit before checking the mail).

Unless they are fried. Fried pickles should be hot.

With Remoulade.

Not Ketchup.

Or Catsup.

Fried pickles??? How are these prepared, if I may inquire ...

I've always had plural pickle action, though I can't give a norm number. CFA is where it's at for chicken sandwiches. I haven't had one in a while because I've gravitated away from the fast food and especially the fried fast food, but I surely remember digging into the corner of those foil paper bags with a wet finger in order to extract the last little crunchy fried bits of breading.

You had a pretty good trip down south, Artie. Did you get any moonpies? Pecan logs?

What is that? the tasting menu? prix fixe includes sugary sweet tea, in which you can get your teaspoon to stand up by itself ... :raz: Viagra not included ...

breaded & fried. If memory serves they are a Kentucky specialty that has spread over much of the South. There are several places you can find them around Atl but I can not think of any names right off the top of my head. I do remember a couple of places near Conyers that make a big deal about their fried pickles.

As for Chik-Fil-A it is one of the very few "fast food" places into which I will even step foot. And agree w/ him or not you must give kudos and respect to Truett Cathey as he practices exactly what he preaches. They still offer a deal where if you bring a church bulletin into the restaurant on Monday you can get a free sandwich. All of the ministers in my family love that deal.

I do respect Truett Cathy for acting on his beliefs and remaining closed on Sundays his bio... he is no hypocrite certainly .. and the sandwich ain't half bad either!

Former President Jimmy Carter says of Cathy`s life and book, "Truett Cathy`s commitment to principles has enabled him to achieve both spiritual and financial prosperity. In Eat Mor Chikin: Inspire More People, he tells how this simple philosophy led him to become a mentor and role model to young people, a customer-oriented restaurateur, a community leader and philanthropist. It is one of the most remarkable success stories of our time."

In my undergrad days at Universtiy of Tennessee we had a chik-fil-a at one of the campus food-spots and we could use our meal plan there; sometimes I probably ate at least one meal a day there for a month or more straight - the more pickles the better. I've realized that my fast-food standards are considerably lower than many others' on the board, but even given my love for about every fast food place, Chik-fil-a manages to stand out by being so good without drowning their food in extra ingredients and sauces; the chicken (and pickles!) really speaks for itself.

on a tangent - Iron Chef America is on right now and it's the one with Big Pussy... what were they thinking?

On another tangent, thinking of home reminds me of Krystal..... sigh...

See... one of the few Chick-Fil-A franchses in the Northeast is in Bergen County, New Jersey (and has been there for about 25 years). Why Bergen County of all of the possible locations in the inhospitable North?

Because commercial properties (like malls) are CLOSED on Sundays (due to "Blue Laws"). Truett Cathy apparently didn't want to battle with local mall managers over having a prominently closed store in the heart of a mall, and fortunately his values matched that of this lone Northeastern county.

EDIT - actually, the Chick-Fil-A website store locator reveals there are now a whopping 6 locations in New Jersey. I know that's actually got to be a fairly recent development.

One other redeeming thing about CFA is their kids' meals: typically, the "toy" is a book chock full o' interesting facts about animals, space, Greek history or something relatively educational. No plastic toy from the latest unsuccessful Disney tie-in!

I was going to mention the kid's meals. Last time Emma got a set of cards with information about the solar system - and like Dean said, no product tie-ins.

My wife and I buy a boatload of their calendars every Christmas and distribute them around the office as impersonal gifts. The coupons included in the first two months alone make it a worthwile money-saving endevour, and the art is silly to boot. Worthwile and money-saving, of course, unless you've adverse reactions to coupons. :hmmm:

Rice pie is nice.

I hate the pickles on Chik-Fil-A sandwiches, but I love the taste of the pickle juice that gets leftover on the top bun from where the pickle was... :raz: I guess I like the taste of the pickle, but not the texture.

As much as I love the sandwich, I have to share with you the salad experience. Sometimes, I really have to do the drive through thing on the way to the office. Luckily, the strip of fast food places includes CFA. Given the need to get some portion of the vegetable kingdom into my diet from time to time, I tried the salads. They are all exceptionally good but the chicken strip version is my favorite. That has to be one of the best fast food salads on the planet. For $4.75 you can't go wrong.

I remove the pickles as well but enjoy the lingering flavor. It is a texture thing with me as well. I like the waffle fries better than McDs fries.

I love me some Chick Fil A. I actually like the sandwiches better when they've been in the bag under the heat lamp for a while. It kind of steams the bun, and the pickle juice permeates the bun and chicken. Mmmmmmm.....

I also love Krystal but think White Castle is better and wish we had either in DC.

You had a pretty good trip down south, Artie. Did you get any moonpies? Pecan logs?

I got Sundrop soda (never had one), Big Bob Gibsons BBQ, Mt. Olive bread and Butter pickles and pickled okra, Golden Flake Hot thin & crispy chips (a great chip) and Mac's brand pork cracklings.

I truly love eating in the south and I have a lot of these products shipped up north to me (still have some Cheerwine soda left). I am trying to make my way through all the Southern states, I was in South Carolina in Feb., Alabama this past weekend, and I am heading to Charlotte in two weeks.

Now that's a tasting menu. Well done! I'd try a moonpie if you get the chance, but the pecan logs are not for the faint of sugarheart.

Yes! Redemption! I am kind of a Golden Flake freak.

Hard to go wrong with any of these fine products from the Southland

Golden Flake

Tom's Snacks (especially their delicious peanut butter cheese crackers  )

Zapp's

and finally, the superior toasted cheese snack of the World-

Chee Wees (great on Peanut Butter Sandwiches!)

*lol*...ahhh. good times. well i suppose compared to olive and ground beef turkey stuffing, no pickles isn't so bad. i forgive you.

Dangit Mayhaw Man! I hadn't thought about Zapp's Crawtater chips in quite sometime but now I'm sitting here drooling at my keyboard. That's it. I'm driving to Chick-Fil-A for lunch (since I don't have any Zapp's chips handy...)

Yeah, but I really don't like this year's "cow superhero" motiff. Last year's calendar was much better.

Because my local Chick-fil-A is actually 20 minutes away, I only use about 1/3 of the coupons, but it still seems to be worth it for the $5.

June is a crappy promotion. A free large Coke with a Cool Wrap? First of all, why do I want to buy a Cool Wrap instead of the classic CFA sandwich? Second of all... a Coke? That's costing you like... 5 cents, CFA--mostly for the cup. :raz:
