Cafe Colore--South Brunswick

We had dinner tonight at Cafe Colore, 4095 Rt 1 S, South Brunswick Square Shopping Center, South Brunswick. This recently opened casual 50 seat restaurant under the direction of Chef Michael Coury is very attractive with light green walls, some wooden farmhouse tables that seat six and a slick neat look. The restaurant has a liquor license with a small but ample selection of Italian wines by the 3 ounce or 6 ounce glass or bottle. There is no sit-down bar area

When seated we were given slices of toasted bread topped with a white bean paste and an addictive herbed olive oil to dip our bread into. We shared a balsamic cipolline, rosemary and cheese pizzette which was big enough for the two of us. My entrée was strezzopreti with broccoli rabe, golden raisins and toasted pine nuts and Lowell had sautéed medallions of veal, red grapes, onions and sweet vermouth with sautéed escarole and herbed white bean puree. Both were not only tasty but also a delightful change from the usual dishes you are offered in an Italian restaurant. Dessert was a chocolate brioche bread pudding with whisky sauce. What could be bad? Café Colore is open daily for dinner. Call 732-355-0410 for reservations.

Rosie, you were about a mile from my house!  Anyway, Bab and I have been there twice,  and enjoyed the menu as well. We went witht eh kids when it frist oppened,a nd the service was terribble, but a return visit a few weeks later, with just the two of us, was much better.  The pasta choice are a bit "fussy" for the kids, but they omitted a few ingredients for our fussy bunch, which is always appreciated.
