James Webb Space Telescope images ranked by how good they look to eat  (by Alexandra Petri in the Washington Post)

Quote

One of those things that they always say about space is that you ought to send a poet there. But instead they are always sending expensive pieces of equipment and scientists and astronauts and people who say things like, “Super! Really enjoyed it!” when asked how it was to go to the moon.

Well, I am not a poet but I am an English major who has not had lunch yet. So I thought I would do my part to make the case for poets by ranking the James Webb Space Telescope pictures in order of how good they looked to eat. By the time I am done, you bet that you will wish you had sent me instead of that costly and elaborate equipment!

"There is no sincerer love than the love of food."  -George Bernard Shaw, Man and Superman, Act 1

"Imagine all the food you have eaten in your life and consider that you are simply some of that food, rearranged."  -Max Tegmark, physicist

Gene Weingarten, writing in the Washington Post about online news stories and the accompanying readers' comments: "I basically like 'comments,' though they can seem a little jarring: spit-flecked rants that are appended to a product that at least tries for a measure of objectivity and dignity. It's as though when you order a sirloin steak, it comes with a side of maggots."

My cousin was out running errands last night, and received this heated text from her daughter:

"What kind of sociopath serves lemonade at dinner and then puts an unlabeled pitcher of vegetable stock in the fridge?"

I've done that to myself.   Frozen bags of backyard lemon juice in freezer (unmarked).   Pull one out, thawed and mixed with sugar/honey.   Nice sweet chicken broth beverage.   Learned my lesson about assuming things by color from the freezer.

A personal funny, no visuals.    Our son, maybe 5 at the time, was  used to rare meat (chops, steak, roasts, pink hamburger).    One night I cooked a pot roast.    He grew up accompanying us to antique and flea markets, garage and estate sales.   He looked at his plate of grey meat and asked, "Mama, is this meat second hand??

Even enlarging my screen, I can't read your image, @chromedome. :(

I'm sorry, I don't know why it's so small.

In the first frame the tea drinker snarls "Coffee is disgusting! I only drink the finest leaves!"

In the second frame the coffee drinker scowls and opines that "Tea is just pompous water! Real adults drink coffee."

In the third frame, the cocoa drinker - wrapped in a comfy, fuzzy hoodie with blissed-out cartoon eyes - says "Sometimes I add rainbow sprinkles."

Brenda

I whistfully mentioned how I missed sushi. Truly horrified, she told me "you city folk eat the strangest things!", and offered me a freshly fried chitterling!

Depends on the spices. I use pumpkin as the creamy ingredient in soups including noodled, works well combined with coconut. If the spices are in the vein of pumpkin pie - pass
