Dinner in London - good value?

Afternoon all

I'm off to sunny London in a few weeks, and want to book an anniversary meal for t'other half. Given the current financial crisis I'm wondering if any top-end restaurants are particular value for money at the moment? Idealy Mich' Star+.

Any recommendations?

Places like Arbutus and Wild Honey are all reasonably priced, and then there's always St John (although may not match up to your requirements for an anniversary dinner). Depends what you're looking for though, I don't think you'll get away with anything less than £50-60/head for food in a London 2/3* at dinner time, but I could be wrong!

the lunch menu at Marcus wareing is £35 and the room is beautiful - especially for an anniversary. Very reasonably priced winelist too.

Do you specifically require dinner or would lunch be ok?

The best value by far is at lunch.

I think the £45 lunch deal at Ducasse would be worth considering. It will be a 3 star come the new year! Lovely room as well.

I can see that it is heading for 3* in 2010. But is the general consensus that it is on a par with experiencing AD in Paris and MC ? Certainly for us Brits it is much cheaper in London. Would it be a lower-tier 3* experience ?

I would say it is a British 3*, of course Michelin will claim it is the same standard the world over. Having said that I would have been happy having that meal in France. I've heard that Monaco isn't as good recently, incidentally the lunch is probably on a par price wise with the lunch in Louis XV.
