A whole pickle bar - two (three?) different pickles, plus pickled tomatoes and peppers and a few other things. Mmmmmm, pickles...

And gooooooooood egg creams, made with Fox's U-Bet Chocolate Syrup.

Sigh.

[Good Diner in DC?]

The place in Silver Spring is called the Parkway - it was my favorite DC-area diner, and I've been jonesing for it ever since I moved to Boston.

You'll need a car to get there, but it's worth the journey - take 16th Street all the way up into Maryland; left on East-West Highway; go about a mile - you'll see a synagogue (Temple Sinai?) on your right, and make a left onto Grubb Road. It's about two blocks down on the left, in a little strip mall.

[O'Rourke's Diner]

O'Rourke's is my favorite diner ever. I went to college in Middletown, and ate there about once a week. The breads are excellent, as are the omelets and the apples 'n noodles dish. Yum.

If you're ever driving between NY and Boston (or Hartford), it's only a short detour, and is definitely worth it.

After months of lurking around and thoroughly enjoying myself here, I've got a question:

I'm going to be in NYC at the end of the month, and am looking for a bistro-type place that won't mind a couple of people sitting (and eating and drinking lots) for several hours. Someplace that's got good mussels, bread, cheese and charcuterie plates, and, especially, a kickass hanger steak. The Village/Chelsea would be best, but just about anywhere in lower Manhattan will do.
